I Think My Rotors Are Shot

Not goners yet, Tim. Surface crazing and some cracking is normal. You need to keep an eye on any cracks that approache the edges, and any sign of deep cracks joining up. Don't see any of that in these pics.

Mine look about like that now. I will run the next DE that way and change out for the cir race in mid september. Keep an extra set at hand.

I thought anything more than 7mm in length of a crack is no good??? those look like they are longer than 7mm to me.... or is it just that extreme of a close up???

7mm is what Porsche says is the max for cracks in their cast-hole rotors. Stoptech's limits may be different.

Those shots are all the way across the rotor. As you can see, some of the cracks go the whole distance. They are fairly big and obvious, but I just don't know how deep they go. It doesn't look good to me. I plan to contact StopTech on Monday to get their opinion, but I'm pretty sure they're shot.

I respect what some say here that these are still good for a few more track days, BUT I personally would NEVER take a set of rotors like these down the road to pick up the mail, let alone the track. They're trash. If they were drilled I could completely understand, but they are not.
What pads are you using. Seems that you have some bad gouging also.

I know I wouldn't trust running on that... the seperation alone of the cracks looks like it would prematurely wear out the pads... and to me it is just asking for catastrophic failure the next hard stop you have....

Tim,
How many miles/track days do these stop tech rotors reflect? I read through the posts here, and I don't think you have mentioned it. I don't think that is a factor in whether you need to replace them, but I would be curious to hear how much wear lead to this.

Tim, at the end of the day, you owe it to yourself to do what you feel comfortable with (on the safe side) but I don't think you are looking at a rotor that is "shot" yet. When the cracks reach the edges, (perpendicular to the edges I mean), by all means, show them the circular file. But I raced on a variety of cracked (like you show there) rotors and my experience is that something that looks like that cold, expands w/ heat and becomes a solid face. When the cracks get to the edges however, whole different ball game as the surface plane around the circumference is no longer flat. But from my experiences, when they do finally crack through, it is a very noticable vibration under braking, not anything catestrophic and the car still stops. Again though, you owe it to yourself to do what you feel safe with.
