Funny in a kind of annoying way...

Looks like that "steward" was using her little bit of authority to it's fullest potential. If a car qualifies in 7th (he did say 7th, didn't he?), and the stewards are happy to grid him last, then what is the purpose of qualifying in the first place? Kinda dangerous to making thoise passes on the parade lap though.

a)... been there done that.... gridded late and watched the whole field go by helplessly while I fumbled with my belts... take your medicine and learn your lesson... hence the term "dumb rookie"

b) Grid steward was a bit harsh, but you have to follow SOME procedure... take your medicine and learn your lesson...

c) Passing on the warm-up lap? Can't believe even the dumbest rookie is THAT dumb... incredibly dangerous IMHO... more a jaw dropping WTF than LOL

d) The stewards didn;t black flag this guy immediately? What... were they too busy torturing the rookies in the next race group? WTF... again

Bottom line... cut out the pit sequence, speed up the tape and bask in the glory...

Is this the poster boy for SCCA racing? Yikes

I cant believe someone warming up their tires did not clobber that guy. When warming up my tires I know where the guy next to me /behind me is, never think to look for a rookie shooting the gap!!
I agree with above WTF was he thinking. Funny on the internet but in real life pretty scarry

Looks more to me the steward was doing her job properly. I guarantee you that they know their jobs and the rules that apply to them and that they must apply much better than 99% of the drivers out there.

The fault lay totally with the driver. If you're not ready, you go to the back. When he waved the other car ahead, that signaled (albeit incorrectly) that he was not ready. That's NOT the steward's fault.

The stew was following the rules.

Agreed. That race shouldn't have started and the starter should have given him the black flag.

I don't understand this comment. I've never seen rookies tortured and they weren't on this video either.

Now why would you even think that?

Bit of humor.... (BTW this guy was in serious pain...) but seriously, shouldn't somebody have seen this guy? We've gotten waive-offs because of people cheating to the inside... this seems like a pretty serious breech of starting procedure.

Ok, I'm a snob... I admit it... and in all respect, at its higher levels SCCA has some of the best sportscar racers in the world... but when I see some of the banged up pieces of **** in the SCCA paddocks, I seriously wonder whether I trust my car to them... I've seen NY taxicabs that look better...I don;t have alot of money. my car gets wrecked, I'm done racing Period. End of story.

Glad nobody but PCA racers read this board.....this is unfortunately a common feeling within PCA. Sad.

Don't be so sure, AE. But I agree - stereotypes are never pretty.

Back on topic, it's pretty disturbing that a rookie could even get so far as this one did without a better understanding of the way things work at the track... seems like he missed the point on so many basic operational things, I'd almost wonder if he even knows all his flags!!!

I just can' t help, but laugh at pain his voice... "I was seventh!"

Dang... that was long pace lap to pass 63 cars.

Note if you read that thread this was in 2000 and the driver is not very good SM racer. He even posted lower down.

What are there, 60 cars on the grid, and he qualified 7th? As a rookie, he has to be doing something right.

"I'm seventh!" has a ghetto-esque quality to it...
