Default AutoPower RollBar

Anyone have pics of the autopower rollbar in a 944? I am going to purchase one and would like to see how people mounted them, mainly to get ideas on how to install it cleanly and properly.

Thanks
Z

What application do you need the rollbar for? DE? Club racing?

I have a Redline Rollbar in my 944S2, and it works great. Web: www.redlinerennsport.com John (aka Redlineman) does a terrific high quality job with these. Hopefully he's got them in stock for you.

For DE, the Redline rollbar is perfect. It is bolt in using four of the the exsisting rear seat belt mounts.

David,
I would consider the Safety Devices or DAS Sport rollbars over the Autopower. Having considered them all, I found the Autopower to be the worst of the available options. Unless they've made major changes, it bolts to the floor of the car whereas the others bolt to plates that get welded to the sills or other structural members. The floor is not as strong as the structural members and, although unlikely, the cage could just punch a hole in the floor. You have a really nice car. Treat yourself to a really nice rollbar.

I'll second what Z said about the Redline bar. I had one before I got a full cage and think it's great.

david - i've got an autopower rollbar and agree with the above - it is rather crudely inserted into the car. for me, it's not an issue because my car is not cosmetically perfect. i would look into the redline rollbar if you want something high class.

nonetheless, here's a link to a thread with a pic of my rollbar: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hlight=rollbar

I also have the autopower, and after seeing a friend's redline bar, I am kicking myself in the *** for going the route that I did. In the classifieds, under race parts, and 951 gt3 car parts, there is one for $400, and the guy is in IL. Maybe he still has it.

if you still go with the autopwer bar (I just installed one) Have them move the harness bar up to 90 degrees parallel to your shoulders. He likes to mount them dangerously low.

Does Das-Sport make a rollbar for the 944? Thought they didn't... What's the url for Safety Devices? I'm in the same position, doesn't make sense to spend the money on a harness bar vs just getting a full rollbar.

What's the deal with the Safety Devices rollbar? Anyone have a pic of it? How's it mount up, what size are the backing plates, etc?

docwyte types: "doesn't make sense to spend the money on a harness bar vs just getting a full rollbar."

I would prefer a Redline Rollbar over any of the mail order cages for the price. If you want the protection of a fullcage spend the money to get a custom cage. I would be willing to bet you will either eventually modify your mail-order cage or replace the mail-order cage with a full custom if you go that route this year. I have seen many people do that exact thing.... so get the custom cage or just the Redline bar.

Just an opinion. Hope it helps...

The Autopower rollbar is junk, IMHO. It is also not allowed in many sanctioning bodies due to the fact they make it out of ERW tubing and very low quality ERW at that. They also bolt to the floor which is not structurally sound. Please be safe out there, if you are planning on making the wise investment by purchasing a rol bar, get one that is good.

Cheers, James

Thanks for all the information. When I wrote the thread I have already purchased the bar from a friend who went to a cage. So I am going to think aboutn hardening the floor and wheel well mounting points with additional steel...

I'd honestly sell it.

I have an autopower cage in my Integra, and really not impressed. I'm preparing my 944 for track-only use and just dropped it off to get a custom cage built for it. When you consider the cost and labor (either mine or someone else's) to instally a safety devices or other higher-quality cage, the custom cage isn't that expensive, and its a much better solution.

While I have no love for Autopower, you should get your facts straight. Autopower no longer makes ERW cages. They are now DOM. And they are certainly legal in the SCCA and probably any body that allows bolt-in cages.
