Default removing GT3 cup windows

HI,

My new door did not come with a window, will have to take the old one out of my smashed door (what do you want for over 3K?).

I have heard it is a painful job with blowdryer and putty knife... any hints?

Also thinking of rivets or countersunk screws for installing this window, and looking for hints on that too.

Anyone ran with driver's window but no window on the passenger's side as a compromise between baking and aero? Or maybe worse aero than both windows out due to buffeting?

Thanks!

Mike, we cut BOTH windows out of our 05 Cup Car. Neither driver has complained about any buffeting to bother them.

Mike,I had to replace a door on an 03 cup and swap over the window. Its not hard at all.Just warm up the double sided tape slowly and lift the window off of the frame. As for reinstalling it on the new door,1" double sided tape will work and you want to install the plastic rivets that the factory sells for added security. These rivets were a field installed update per pmna bullitin.I had to upgrade all my client late cup doors/windows,not a problem.Good luck, let meknow if you have any problems.

Mike, I think Jerry has it right. You need to heat up the window in the taped area along the top. Parking it in the afternoon sun may even work.

I wish I had put in the plastic rivets since my window flew off at Fontana. For the recall PMNA sent the same rivets used to attach the front splitter for use on the windows.

If anyone has an '03 passenger side window available, please e-mail me.

BTW, with just the passenger side window off, the buffeting was minimal and as you would expect, driver cooling was much improved.

For improved driver cooling, remove the door seal rubber on dry days, only install it on wet days

Mike were you running the PCA Club Race or the IMSA Cup Challenge? If you were running the Challenge, what was your impression.

HI,

I was PUNTED in T7 in the IMSA GT3 challenge. It was a crashfest, you can find a short writeup by me in the GT3 CUP QUALIFYING thread.

My new rear quarter, rocker, and door are now being prepped for painting and car should be on the track at Lime Rock on Friday. We had so many cars wrecked that our bodyman is near death, was working all weekend on our cars... 7 of our 9 cup cars were damaged

Have fun!

Mike;

Would you please send me a PM. I'd like to talk to you about that series and potential participation with concerns. You know the story...

You have a 2005 GT3 Cup? or a 2004 GT3 Cup? In theory all the 2005 cars are 997s and only for Supercup teams.

I have a 2004. There are a few dozen (?) 2005 GT3 cups in the USA, all are 996 version, carryover from 2004 specs. Mac has one of these. Next year we can get the 997 version in the USA. But they will be VERY expensive.

There was a large batch of 996 GT3 Cup cars made in late 2003 / early 2004 - they were sent down the production line in Zuffenhausen. I expect you will find that the cars you refer to as 2005 come from this batch.
