PCA CVR has a track description at http://www.cvrpca.org/de/cvrguide02.pdf, see appendix D. There are a number of video's on the internet with laps. Skippy has one at http://www.skipbarber.com/multimedia/limerockpark.htm

Next weekend will be my first PCA club race, but I've done 20+ days at Lime Rock. Here's my thoughts:

Big Bend -- Start to dive to the first apex at about the 6 marker. Trail brake to after the first apex. Follow the concrete to the 2nd apex. Make sure to track all the way out after the 2nd apex (it's wider there than you think).

The Esses -- In DE, you get all the way to the right in the short chute, but I would guess that you should stay in the middle of for racing. Arc into the apex, but only track out to the middle of the track to setup for the right. In many cars, everything after the apex of the left thru to no name straight can be flat out, though it takes some big ones to actually do it. The track out point is off camber, and the candy cane can be very slick, depening on the conditions.

The Uphill -- Apex the turn just after the start of the curbing. Hug the inside until the start of the hill, and the start to unwind. I tend to give myself some room for error up the hill, 'cause you don't want to run out of track. You also want to be straight as you crest the hill.

West Bend -- This is faster than you think. It can be a tap and go when done right. Follow the concrete.

The Downhill -- Stay on it all the way down the hill, then tap and go. It's really bumpy at the apex (worse than last year even), so be prepared to clench hard. I'm not sure if people try pass here, but if they do, there is a huge dip in the middle of the track, about a 2 car widths from the apex. I hit when I went around someone who was pitting, and man was it interesting.

Here's a video of Rick Deman running at LR, which gives an idea

I've watched SCCA race at LR, and I've seen people attempt the pass, but it never worked out too well. One guy wadded up his formula car when he tried to lap a slower car (why he didn't wait is beyond me, since he had no pressure fro 2nd place).

Bob, I think I saw you at LR this past Sat (in the rain). Man you were hauling. Where those some kind of special rain tires you were on?

I used to do it this way, until a (much faster) fellow G racer generously took me around. In our lower HP SCs you have to do the downhill without brakes: The two "tricks" are: 1) work up to not braking by lifting early in the downhill, and "coast" to the turn in. Move the lift later and later down the hill as cojones allow. 2)Hit the apex. as a track walk reveals, bumpy or not, there is radical positive camber at the apex, that falls away quickly. Hit it and you get all kinds of bonus grip. Miss it, and you get all kinds of grip demerits.
Oh, and one big help for me: as soon as I exit west bend, I begin breathing deep and fast through my mouth, inanely chanting: hoo boy hoo boy hoo boy. Kiegel excercises optional...

PS: replaying some mental track video; of course, if you are too slow in west bend, someone will come alongside in the downhill and steal the apex, forcing the kind of contingency plan you allude to above. So yes you can pass/get passed though technically not so much in the corner as before it.

Some find taking the downhill apex about 2' out from the apex curbing avoids unsettling the suspension as much.

I only do LRP once a year so here are some of the takeaways from a relative novice to the track.

First, the crest of the Uphill will unload your car AND kick the back-end out. You need to countersteer slightly so that your wheels are straight relative to the track... not the car.... when you land... you will get the hang of this but be forewarned and work up to it slowly.... this effect gets worse as you track out closer to the edge of the track... the turn is safer if you crest the hill closer to the center of the track.

Second. the second half of Big Bend is a sharp right hander. Carry too much entry speed and you can spin... you cannot help yourself here... only hurt yourself... so IMHO throw it away.

Third... the entrance to No Name straight is a relatively dangerous place... you must be right on the money to go through here safely at speed, so precision is really important.... get it wrong and there is a tire wall right there to catch you.

Fourth, the Downhill is extremely fast and can be taken flat out by the slower cars... but it takes big ones....work up to it slowly... if you drop a wheel at the exit here, alot of things can happen and none of them are good.

IMHO, LRP is a very technical and fast track that demands alot of precision and respect.

Makes sense in a G car, but I doubt that flat out is an option for Tim's 993tt. I used to go flat out down the hill in my slick shod 914/6, but it still did require a good solid clentch.

I just may have to try that!

Yes it is. I know I won't be up with the leaders, which is fine. My goal is to run in the low 61s or high 60s, which would put me about 1 sec off the pace. (well my real goal is not to cause or be in any accidents...everything else is just a nice to have).

Having some first hand experience, I can attest how true this is.

Well, lets all pray for dry weather, as it is , with all the rain we've had, Lake Lime Rock might be there ready to clean your undercarriage, if you push too hard thru Big Bend! Track-out there is also a nasty spot to "hook it" back across the track. Ask me how I know
