Putting Patches on Racing Suit
Any idea what type of thread is used to put patches on a racing suit? Somewhere? I read it was different from cotton. Thanks

I think cotton thread would work fine, as there is not that much thread on each patch. When I was a military pilot, all the patches I had on my flight suit were sewn on with cotton thread, and I was told they might burn off, but who cares, all you want do do is get out anyway. Cotton thread would not be considered an accelerant. I know in most racing organizations, there is no rule. Of course if you have hundreds of patches, then let your conscience decide. I sew my own on, of course I get few compliments on them. When you have to **** your head to read my Hossier patch, it takes something away from the beauty.

Here's a tidbit from the Stand21 site WRT patches:
"The FIA 8856-2000 standard, which has been compulsory since December 2001, stipulates that:
- Direct Embroideries must only be sewed on the outside layer of the suit.
- Badges sewed on the suit must have an aramid background, ISO 15025 A standard."
I wonder if I can buy aramid and just have it stitched in between the patch and suit....
