I'm not sure how to do this but I think a poll of what "track" tires everyone will use this year, would be interesting. I would include, MPSC, Hoosiers, Pirelli's and other. This could be cross posted to the other boards like 993, 933, GT2-3 or others.

Anyone interested?

Post details of your car. What works for a lightweight high dollar 2.0L HSR screamer is not what works for an '05 Cup car.

 

Going from 225/35/18, & 265/30/18 MPSC's to Hoosiers 245/35/18 & 275/35/18's on my '91 C-2.

I have used Hoosiers and MPSC. On budget, I expect the MPSC to be better. Lap times-- at WGI I, would expect the Hoosiers to be 1 sec faster.

No, the problems were definitely founded.

Hoosier did make an effort to remold or change the belting on certain sizes (285/30/18s and some others) to reduce the premature shoulder wear. I cant say for certain that there is a significant improvement over the earlier S04s, or that there is any truth to their original claim that the S04s would last longer than the S03s.

My feeling is that the S03s would dry out before they wore out, now the S04s wear out either before or equally with drying out. Either way you need to have a fresh set per race. Anyone have better experiences?

 

Generically, Toyo RA-1s are a DEers best friend. Long lasting, very forgiving. Full seasons and full drifts are possible. I also employ Hoosiers, when I'm feeling flush, Kuhmos if I'm not. About to try out the Dunlops R-Compounds for the 996, but havent yet track them.

 

MPSCs for DE. Hoosiers for racing. I have had no problems with Hoosiers in 225/245 size I use.

 

Goodyear CS-GS dot " R " 275/17 and 295/18 purchased NEW.

Hoosiers S03's 305/18 all 4 wheels, purchased "scuffed", usually only used once for qualifying!

Both Goodyear and Hoosier... 18 inch Slicks. Those suckers are EXPENSIVE, and don't last long !!!

But GOD, do they STICK !!!

MPSC on my '94 Turbo, 235/40/18 up front, 285/30/18 in the rear.

I've tried the Dunlop Super Sport Race and didn't like them as much as the MPSC.

 

RA-1's. For my money, they have more stick than the MPSC's and probably work better in the wet as long as the RA-1's are at a reasonable tread depth.

Sizes are limited, though.
