I have run MPSC's and will try the Dunlap SSR this year for comparison.

Ditto. I got 2 sets of Dunlop SSR's for less than 1 set of the MPSC's. For DE usage, it's hard to go wrong with that formula.

Matt:

Are you sure the RA-1 have more stick than the MPSC's?

Forklift:

I'll see you next week at VIR. What hot pressure do you run the RA-1's?

Cool! I was wondering who would be at the Mazda event. I run mine right at 40 hot after reading that several places on the list and trying it myself.

I am also curious about the MPSCs having more grip than the Toyo's. Does anyone have any lap time comparison's for these?

Jim

Hard to go wrong unless you don't like them. I'll be curious to hear your impressions. Imo, the DSSR drives more like a sticky street tire than a dedicated track tire.

Still, the DSSRs were good enough for FTD at last year's NNJR Porscherama Time Trial...

MPSCs for DE and hopefully my first Club Race this year. I recently tried the Dunlop SSRs and while I don't think they're as grippy as the MPSCs they were quite nice. I agree w/Dr. Jupeman that they drive like a street tire. They're very progressive, they chatter a little, and they don't take as long to heat up as the MPSCs. Ultimately though I feel the MPSCs when hot are more consistent, a bit grippier and more "snappish" as the limit.

I'm driving a 99 996 with a few suspension goodies.

MPSCs for the last 60 track days, but trying a set of Pirelli P0 Corsa tires this year due to the deep discount at TireRack this winter.

KJ's description of the DSSRs is a good one. Here's a video of me on the DSSRs that might give an indication of what they're like:

Exactly, so they can't be too bad... Ultimately, even if they are alike a sticky street tire, I think it comes down to what your goals are for a DE event. Sure, while we all like to go fast, I think that there is something to be said for exploring the limit at a slower speed (which will happen with a less sticky tire).

You'll certainly hear about my opinions though, as I suspect with my current schedule, I'll have worn out my MPSCs by Mid-Ohio and I'll be breaking in the DSSR's for TQ.

Not having experienced the MPSCs, I'm pretty happy with the SSRs so far having just moved up from the PS2s. If the MPSCs stick even more, that's great. It's just too bad Toyos dont come in a size I can use...

Dr - Even considering the sale on these babies.$500 US.

I also don't believe TireRack has them in 285s.

Yes, they are insanely cheap, but the lack of a 285 through TireRack makes my decision easy. I don't want to run "only" 265s on my car.

I ran Hoosier SO4's on my Fire Hawk prepped 968 for nearly 24 plus track days last year and had no problems. Ran SO3's previous and do agree with the previous comments about S03's drying out quicker. Sizes are 275/40 X 17 and 245/40 x 17. Ran close to -3 camber in rear. No cording problems at all.
