I am gonna get eaten with this idea, but what is common recommendations for towing very light trailer (trailer and car combined around 2000-2200 lbs) 30 minutes to the track 4-5 times a year?
Wife needs a commuter (45 minutes one way) with AC and I'd like to borrow this car for towing in case conversion van gives up. None of my current cars have AC.
Thanks

For that short a haul 5 times a year, how about renting a truck from uhaul or something? Other than that I would guess about anything that you would like to drive that they can put a trailer hitch on would be fine.

That is what I was wondering. Why not sepend the 20 or so on a WRX. You already have a trailer so just rent a Suburban from Enterprise when you need it? Yes, it will make DE weekends appear more expensive but you will be spending more per year in gas and car payments and still have parking issues. Make it a Mini had you can park two.

I used to tow with a GMC crew cab dually and a fifth wheel 40ft Chaparral. It had a 488ci big block and 4-speed. That's overkill for your needs. Today, a base Nissan Titan XE King Cab goes for around US$19k, add a Class III hitch for $300. The 7-wire harness is already there. ca 9500# towing capacity and ca 18mpg highway. My (81 year old) dad tows a 20,5ft boat that with trailer goes for about 5000# - he doesn't even notice it's there. For your use it should last ten years - time enough to move up in car weight and/or trailer size (and extra kinders). Just my 2cts.
