Mid-Ohio or VIR (full)?
I really want to run both of these courses but will likely only make it to one this year. It appears that PCA clubs are running at both courses the first weekend of April and I need to decide which one to attend. Both are long hauls for me, 10+ hrs to Mid-Ohio and 9+ hrs to VIR. So, which one to attend and why?

Though call - VIR and Mid-Ohio are two of my favorite tracks. Are you talking about club racing or DE?
IIRC, Zone 2 is doing the VIR DE in April, and I'm not sure who's doing the event at Mid-Ohio in April.
Given that April can be a little 'iffy' in Ohio weather-wise, I'd say you have a better chance of warmer weather in Virginia.
Then you can join us (NNJR - PCA) for our Mid-Ohio even on May 6-8!

Edited: it's Zone 2 that's doing the VIR DE in April, not Zone 1

Actually, it's Zone 2 who is hosting the April event at VIR. Also, the April VIR gets you two courses in one weekend. Friday is the Grand Course East (longer than Road America) and Sat/Sun is the traditional VIR full course. Bring lots of gas!

Just from a weather perspective, it might be smarter to try VIR in April. Snow is still possible the first half of April in Ohio. Snow would make for a waste of 10 hours of driving. Are you towing?

Yes, this is for the DE, I'm going to spend another year getting track time and then decide on the jump to comp.
Definately towing, and I don't have all wheel drive on my tow vehicle, so snow would not be fun.

Or you could come up in May and run Thurs-Fri w/ us at Mid-Ohio, and then stick around for the Club Race - the weekend AFTER Mother's Day!

Go to VIR in April. As others have said , the weather is very iffy in April in Ohio. Mid-Ohio is an awesome track and IMHO is more difficult to learn.

The date decides it for me. As has been said, you take the risk of horrible weather with freezing rain and icy roads in April at Mid-Ohio. VIR definitely is biased towards high horsepower cars particularly on that long uphill straight in the full course, but being passed there with your pedal to the metal is better than icy spins due to bad weather at very technical Mid-Ohio. Both fun tracks and a tough call any other date.

I agree with the vote to do Mid-Ohio. In a low hp car Mid Ohio will be more fun. That said, if you have the option to do the VIR North Course, that is a little less of an HP course than the full.
