Default Best place to buy an Arai GP-5 ??

I've looked at the sponsor list and of course would like to patronize them but I have no way of telling which ones (if any) sell Arai.

BTW - does anyone know the difference between a GP-5 and a GP-5K?

Thanks.

Check out the Arai auto helmet website for info. I own a GP-5, it is superb. The GP-5K differs in several ways including ventilation and a larger eyeport size and less cost. I wear glasses and found that the smaller eyeport actually works better than the larger one on my previous SA-95 GP-3K.

Oh, I bought it from Speedware in WA. Excellent service and they threw in a very nice zip up outer helmut bag for free.

I loved my GP-3k and am looking forward to this year with my new GP-5k.

HOWEVER be advised, the Arai helmets have a very different shape than the bigger brands like Bell and Simpson. As a result, their fit is very different (more oblong, I believe), so make absolutely sure you've tried one on and left it on your head for five minutes before you take the plunge.

That said, as above, I spent five seasons in my last one and could not have been more pleased - although I was fortunate enough to avoid "dynamically testing" it (!)

Regards to all.

Also, be aware that Arai will not warranty a helmet that is not sold thru one of their dealers. That being said, there was a GP-5k for sale on e-bay a few days ago but the auction ended without the reserve being met. You might want to look for a re-listing in a day or two.

Arai make a superb product. Having used one on a motorcycle for years I can say they are great products, even got to "test" one unfortunately. The ER Dr. said I would have been eating through a tube for the rest of my days if I hadn't been wearing it. Once I started doing the DE thing I was shocked at the poor quality of car helmets, Arai seems to be one of the few that make a good one.

Cheers, James

Saferacer (www.saferacer.com) shows the GP-5 at their normal price of $999 with free shipping. I also recently got an e-mail from them that they were discounting by 10%, if you use the discount code srgm0125 at check out. That gets you down to $900 anyway, with free shipping.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Snell M and A2000 ratings? I would figure the motorcycle helemt to be equally as protective in the event of a crash. Is it the lining, perhaps Nomex with the auto's?

Thanks!

Joe,
Here is a link to the Snell standards:

(I'm assuming you meant SA2000?)

Thanks Louis! I wish the differences were broken out in 3-4 simple sentences.
