Default Help me ID these OMP seats

Hi all,

I am interested in these seats from a fellow R-lister. But the seats have no FIA cert tag, or any other tag, for that matter. I searched the web but cannot ID these ...probably an older model. Does anyone know what these are? TIA!

Edward

Look just like mine. Mine is model "Champion" IIRC. If the same yes the seats are older circa early 90's. I called OMP about the seat on a rail issue and got the name and is a low end FIA legal racing seat. If you only need one seat I could use the other!
Oh and very comfortable seat too IMO.

Hi Dal,

Thanks for the info. Are there any tags on the seat you have? This is my first race seat purchase and I want to get it "right" ...which is why I'd like to make certain that there is some kind of FIA cert. Is this a fiberglass seat or tube-steel frame? Thanks!

No tags either but you can bet it will need a seat back brace for PCA rules. Fiberglass shell. It is a FIA rated seat just old rating. Still good to use provided the rails pass and a seat back is installed.iirc

Dal,

Thanks again for the info. Curious, though: why no FIA tag? All the current seats with FIA certs have tags sewn in. Is this a recent mandate to manufacturers? I would think that with the slew of inexpensive "race" seats out there that it would be in a company's best interest to "advertise" their FIA compliance right on their product.

Your welcome!

Good question on the tag I wondered the same thing.

I recognize those seats, circa 1990 like previously mentioned. I used to have them in my old Carrera. They were a steel tube framed seat, with webbing for support. I certainly WOULD NOT use them with a seat back brace. You need a hard shell seat (fiberglass or aluminum) to safely distribute the load of a seat back brace.

Must be a different seat than mine. Mine isn't tube framed. Sure looks like my seat though! Maybe it is even older than mine?!

Could be that they made 2 different models. It is easy to check. If the seatback is soft, it is a tube frame seat. If it is rock hard, it is a fiberglass shell.
