I have a '73 911 T and just got my transponder in today...Where do you guys typically mount it...It's the hardwired version.

In the front wheelwell, nice and low and out of the way. Mount it forward to avoid tire rubbing. Drill holes if none are available, and mount with zip ties. I prefer it to break away if there is frontal damage rather than get crushed. Easy peasy.

Exactly.
Leading edge of the front passenger side wheel well. I don't remember what circuit I tapped into for power, either the horn or the trunk light.
If you have aluminum ducting below it, as I do, you can play it safe by drilling a 1-inch hole directly below the unit. But this is probably not necessary.
Oh, and write down the number for the unit, since you'll need it for event entry forms. It's a pain to keep having to go down there with a flashlight. (Ask me how I know.)
