Balaclava questions
I done some searching but didn't see what I was after.
So, opinions please.
Should I go for Carbon X, or I see Sparco has some new? fabric called Carmyth.
Anyone have an opinion as to which is better? Also should I go w/ a single or dual eye style?
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
CarbonX and Carmyth are great new fabrics that go a long way toward making fire retardent materials more comfortable. One big difference between the two is the thickness of the material, CarbonX is usually rather thick(between the thickness of a cotton t-shirt and a cotton sweat shirt) whereas Carmyth is very thin like high quality nomex. Simpson is our vendor for CarbonX and they currently do not offer a CarbonX balaclava. We have recieved our first shipment of Carmyth, and though I have not been able to try the product in a track setting, my initial impressions are very positve, it is very soft, almost like cotton and very thin, it does not affect the comfort of a proper fitting helmet.
One eye opening vs. two is a personal preference. If you wear glasses we reccomend one, if not two will provide some additional fire protection.
If you have any questions please call or e-mail me.

Mitch, Tom thanks for the comments.
Tom, I was on your site and saw the Carmyth. Also thanks for the tip Re- glasses....I do, so one eye opening it is. What about sizing. I've got a small helmet, or is it 1-size fits all?
It sounds good, if it'll do it's job, any 'Listers try this Carmyth yet?

buy more than one. You'll be amazed how much sweat they soak up and being able to put on a dry one beats sticking a soaking wet, filthy stinking sock on your head (nice visual, don't you think)

Bill,
The balaclavas are one size fits all. Al has a great point about buying more than one. We were one of the first distributors to get Carmyth and had recieved it about 4 days before Christmas. The first person to buy Carmyth from us was a Formula Vee racer. There may be some Renlist members in Europe that had tried this new fabric.

Concerning balaclavas and underwear...
1. Have any of you guys tried the Sparco Carmyth products?
2. Does anyone know of any testing results done with this material? The testing results with CarbonX is impressive. I wonder how Carmyth compares.
3. How is the helmet fit when using a CarbonX balaclava. I understand that the Carmyth balaclava is thin and does not effect helmet fit.
Thanks
Mike

Tom;
I'll plug you guys as a sponsor. I've purchased several items from you guys and I've been pleased with the transaction each time. Now for my lazy side, do the Simpson Carmyth balaclavas come in more than one color?
