Back to the original topic of concerns with SFI 38.1, in a large extent as relates to the ISAAC but also sheds some light on the issues with the spec and as relates to other devices, interested parties may wish to peruse the following:

924RACR,
Excellent link, thanks.
I found this interesting, extracted from yourlinked article, but I couldn't find it via ISAAC website:
http://www.isaacdirect.com/SFI.html
Another interesting potential question (from the first thread):
If SFI will be applied to H&N, what about SFI helmets? Currently there are (2?) SFI certified helmet suppliers?
Excellent link, thanks.

Trying to learn more about SFI.......
(from the SFI website http://www.sfifoundation.com/):
How is the SFI Standards Program Funded?
Participating manufacturers pay for development and administration of these programs through licensing fees and/or unit charges. Also, interested associations have provided grants and donations.
How Are the Specs Used in Racing?
When adopted as part of the rules of a race sanctioning body, enforcement is entirely up to that organization. The manufacturer then provides the racer with product that is in compliance with the specs enforced by the sanctioning body.
Sanctioning bodies:

SFI is an organization by and for the member manufacturers.
When they issue a certification it is just a matter of time before all sanctioning bodies adopt it lest they open themselves to law suits.
Thanks to the above, we now have to replace perfectly good belts every two years with dubious support from ancient studies using a fiber that is not even used in the belts. Ask the SFI for the testing procedures for belts. They are laughable.
