When I installed 993 brakes on my 964, the first set of rotors were plain and slotted. After 3-4 track days they started cracking. My next set were cryogenically processed, and slotted, and I have over 10 days on them, and you can barely see cracks starting to form.

Racer here, I dont think there is any difference. I ran a set of stock 993 rotors (OEM) and got about 7 events out of front rotors (944 S2) Swaped them for a set of Cryo treated rotors, 3 events and the cracks are pretty big. Will probaly make 7 events but I dont see them going much more. Pagid Blacks all the way around, changed pads with about 40% life left in them. I thought I would try them but dont really see the value add.

Snake Oil for me('87 Carrera with Pagid Orange). Seems that folks have quite a broad range of experience with them. If you are currently happy with your rotor life, I wouldn't bother. If you are going through rotors fast, give it a shot. I believe the more important aspect to this issue is initial rotor quality.

I am not sure. My GT2 had them on it when I purchased the car. I then ran 14 races this year and just replaced the rotors & pads for the last event. But the stock ones may also last that long. I did replace them with Cryo since I had good luck. But there is no comparison here since I have not tried stock ones.

I have used cryo rotors for the past two years with good luck. I happen to have an extra set of factory rotors (non treated) that I am going to use this year. So I will have a good comparison this season. I'll post when I go through the rotors.

Chris,
There are no such things as slotted 993 rotors. I have searched for months, and nobody makes them. There may be a custom 600.00 per rotor out there, but nothing for the club racer

After a 3.6L engine conversion on my 911S, one weekend at Heartland Park warped the rotors, boiled fluid and ate the pads-all stock. Replaced with diversified cryogenics slotted rotors, Hawk HT-10 and motul 600 fluid, and AJ USA brake cooling ducts. Have had no problems in 16+ track days.

OK, I will add my experience as well. This is almost as good as what is the best oil...I used Diversified Cryogen rotors. I have 12 days on them and they are SHOT. I use Performance Friction pads and I believe it is NOT worth the extra expense. I would rather buy the VCI spec rotor from Coleman that have all ready been stress treated and replace when I need to. That is MHO...

Is it out of the question to purchase regular rotors and have them cryo-ed? I know of a guy through the offroad community that would probably charge around $30 (maybe a bit more or even a bit less) to treat all of the rotors. Check out www.performancecryogenics.com (not affiliated, in fact I have never done business)
