Larry,

Take that wing off your GT3 - you're generating too much downforce for your tires

Wish I could have joined you guys @ VIR.

Meant to say: Hoosier has supposedly fixed them

Jack,
I started using the 275's in June and I don't think they have changed anything on them. They may have changed something on the 285's and the 245/35/18's. The 245/35/18's were all on back order for a long time, but they became available again last week. I heard they had to extend the belt out farther laterally on the 285's and that has fixed the problem with them, but I don't use that size.

What mystifies me is the stock class c2s and RSA that run a 285 Hoosier in the rear. You can make it work, but the MINIMUM rim width for such a size is 10"... making these guys CHEATERS!

or am I missing something?!

I was extremely frustrated by the small amount of in car time, though. Perhaps my experience is not typical. Maybe they just had an unusually large class, and had to cut our experience back.
Larry, I get 5 DE's out of my first MPSC's, they lasted 3,600 miles, with almost 2,000 of them on track. I'm not the fastest kid on the block, and like to drive imagining I'm in an endurance race, making things last the distance while keeping the best pace I can. I have no experience with any of the other tires discussed here, so can't compare them to any of those, but for a tire you can drive the car home on they seem pretty awesome to me.

Maybe that's my problem. The Red group is a sprint race for me and every lap is a qualifier! Maybe I'd get more mileage at 9/10s but it is really hard to dial it back for long. That GT3 just makes me go Weeeeeee

Yeah - and I'm out there trying to stay out of your way with my lowly 993. My arm get's tired with all of the GT3's, Cup Cars, and tricked out 930's & 935's in RTR's Red group

But, as frantic as it seems, IMHO - it's not as intense as when I raced and I doubt I'm using as much tire. And that's good for the budget...

Great discussion on the tires. What is the feedback on the new hoosiers for older, lighter cars?
I'm going to be running 225/245 x 16's on an SC at Roebling road in a couple of weeks. any experience out there?

Jack and Larry:

Can't agree with you more on RTR's red group.

I'd go with MPSCs for DE hands down... no brainer IMHO.

For Sprint race the warm-up period for MPSCs seems a show stopper... on the critical first two laps they are as greasy as breakfast at Bob Evans... not so good.

BTW... next year when I run in red, I'm going to tape a cone to my roof so people can use me as a brake marker...

Actually what I have found is that if you run the last practice laps of the session before the sprint race and do some fairly aggressive zig zagging on the warm up lap the MPSC's are not that bad on the first 2 laps. It looks like this way they come up to temp way faster than lets say your first morning run where you can feel the flexing etc. It almost seems that the tires do not get too cold in a short amount of time which makes it easier to bring them quicker up to temp.
That is at least my experience with the MPSC's.

Seems like the car makes a difference. In a 2500 lb car, they take a while. Plus in PCA between qualifying and the start of the race is ususally several hours. Tires are dead cold, and I can't get heat into them zig zagging.

I think they'd be good for an enduro though.
