Default Fuchs Worth?

What are a set of 16x7 and 16x8 forged Fuchs worth as opposed to cast Fuchs? My understanding is that forged Fuchs are the original and superior to cast Fuchs available from aftermarket suppliers.

BTW, these will be used on a racecar. They are not pristine but are straight.

TIA

All Porsche Fuchs are forged. Any cast wheel that is "Fuchs" copy and not worth much.

For a race car stick with the a proper Porsche wheel like a Fuchs, Or Even Phone dail. Stay away from aftermaket wheels unless they are proper race wheels (kenesis, fiske, bbs, ccw). Far too many cheap copies out there.

If you are buying, as little as you can. If you are selling as much as you can get. I know that sounds smart a**, but it's true. I paid a ton for mine, but I got them from Ernie's Alloys, and he is real proud of them.

If they are real, see M758's comments, he's right as usual, I think they are worth somewhere between $650 and $1,000. But they are getting rare, so good luck.

By the way there are two part numbers, one for 944 wheels, and one for 911 wheels. The 911 wheels are bringing higher prices. So if the part number starts 951 it is a 944 wheel, and gives you some dicker room. Unless you know, and look close, they all look the same, at least to me. My set is 2 with a 911 part number and 2 with a 951 partnumber.

Depending on the finish, Bill's range is correct, if maybe a little on the low side. A set of 7x8x16's could easily sell for as much as $1,200, if they've been re-finished recently. I sold two sets last year for $1,000 per set. You can get brand new 9's in the the back (from Wheel Enhancement) for somewhere between 650 and 700 each. 9's are better than 8's -- but 8's are cheaper.

951 8's are valued because their offset allows them to be put in front on 77-89 911's.

NB: It looks like you're putting them on a 944, where the fit issues might be different.

What if the 7 and 8's (with 911 part numbers) have tires on them that are in excellent condition?

I have a set I'm selling with tires for $1200. Not concours, but still in good condition.

Cast wheels tend to be softer and bend more easily. Mille Miglia wheels are a good example. Hit a bump hard and they bend easily. While Porsche cast wheels are not usually super heavy, aftermarket Cast wheels ARE usually heavy and soft. Thus, most ppl don't recommend those wheels for Track duty. Especially if you like to ride the curbs.

Forged wheels are more brittle, and will actually break if hit hard enough. Although they will bend as well, it takes a bit more effort to bend them than it does the Fakes. There is a bit of a misconception that Fuchs are stronger than cast wheels, though. They are basically made to the same strengths as regular cast porsche wheels, but because they are forged and made with less material they are lighter. Fuchs, "928 Sewer Dish" wheels, and 951S/928GT Club Sport wheels are all Forged 16" wheels.

951 part number 8x16" fuchs are super popular with 911 racers as Jack pointed out. They bring higher prices than 944/951 7x16s.

I have one 951 8x16" fuchs wheel for sale and I'm asking $300 for it. I have two 7x16" 951 Fuchs which I'm asking $225 for per each. I think that's a fair price depending on condition and how badly the buyer needs Fuchs.

Buyer beware on the older Fuchs. As some of you may have read, my friend Cris Brady has broken three Fuchs 15x8 wheels in the last year. These were not some knock off, but actual Fuchs OE Porsche wheels.

These are great, light wheels, but some may be coming to the end of their duty cycles...

You are very right, I have heard several people have cracked Fuchs. This is not surprising as the newest (At least ones you buy used, I don't think they still make them, but not sure) are at least 15 years old. I check mine regularly, and then hold my breath.

This months Pano has Ernie's selling them at $500 for 8x16 and $350 for 7x16, which is $1,700 a set plus shipping. If you get them from Ernie they look brand new, he does a real good job. So figure from there, Ernie has to make a profit to stay in business, and if we are selling we should ask some less. The $300 and $225 sounds reasonable, as does the $1,200 for a set, but I would sure cry and snivel and try to get them down, but in the end, I would probably pay that, if they were in good shape. But remember the 911 Fuchs sell higher for some reason, but not at Ernie's.

Also, Ernie gets $200 for a cookie, and the last set I bought was $200 for a good set of four. So once again dicker hard, and try to find someone whose wife just said "either that Porsshh stuff goes or I do."
