Anybody using the AIM MXL dash?
I am looking at cheap data acquisition systems and this one seems to good to be true. Has anyone here used it?

Chris,
I run an MXL Pro. It is a great system. I had a M3 Gold Auto before (which was good too)...
I went with the Pro since I will be using the CAN expansion bus...

Chris:
I hope I can be of assistance. I use the MXL pista. It works great. If you want, I can send you my data files and you can download the software and play with it. I would be glad to help in any way I can.
The best people to deal with are the true (and extremely intelligent) gentlemen at Precision Automotive Research. I have no connection but am an extremely satisfied customer.
Get the Pista and not the Pro. The Pro simply costs more, I'm pretty sure.

Choosing between the Pista and the Pro depends on what you need to do. The Pro is the only one with 4 wheel speed input plus the only one with a CAN bus.
So if you want to later connect AIm's new expansion box with additional analog and digital ports, you will need the Pro. Also, if you want to connect the serial telemetry stream data from your ECU to the Aim, you will need the CAN bus. You can then record the serial stream from your ECU. Which is another reason I need CAN.
Other than that I dont think there are any differences, but an expert should be able to definitively tell you.

Ues, the Pro is the one if you want to wire your own 4 wheel speeds. The CAN bus is an option on the Pista so as long as you aren't going to hardwire the 4 speed sensors (my car has them with PSM) you don't need the Pro.

All right, I am convinced now. I won't need the Pro because the car has no CAN bus (96 993). The four wheel speeds don't seem too important because I am going to use this for my own education rather than for setup.
CC, Please email me whatever you have. I have DSL so big files are not a problem.
