Default Cast vs Forged

Can anyone give me an answer as to which way to go. I am in need of another set of track wheels and have a decision to make...

Forged is better for everything but your budget.

Generally speaking cast wheels require more material for equal strength, so they are either heavier or weaker.

Generally cast wheels are a bit cheaper. For street cast wheels are fine. For racing the weight and strength advantage of forged wheels makes them alot more attractive.

High quality cast wheels are ok for racing, but at a performance price... weight on the wheels is a triple whammy.... reducing accelleration, increasing brake load and making suspension work harder.

Cheap cast wheels are to be avoided.

Amen on forged, forget cast. If your car is the one in the picture, get Fuchs, they are light and forged. They only come in 15" and 16", but you can get almost any width tire that you can get on 17"s. They aint all that expensive if you shop around.

I think it's less of an issue today than it was 20 years ago. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, I think they're all using cast wheels today. The manufacturing methods continue to improve.

You can also use forged Fuchs centers to make wheels in just about any size. My two-piece wheels use Fuchs centers and are 9.5x11x17.

Default What is involved

Jack, can you provide me with the who, what, where and how much...
That makes So much sense to me. Cost prohibitive? who do you trust to do the job?
You certainly peaked my interest. Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Sleder,

I know powertech in NJ knows a place that can do it. I picked up a 17x9 IIRC that they had in the showroom... it was EXTREMELY light.

Again IIRC they were around $600 a piece...

My 2-piece Fuchs are lighter than stock Fuchs in the same sizes. And they come in just about any size you want.

I got them from Lindsey Racing, in Oklahoma. Click on the link for specific information.

Here's a pair of gratuitous pictures of the wheels I had made. You can get them finished in any style you want.

In action:

At rest:
