Brake Pads and 200tw tire recommendations for 996 Turbo
Took the year off from track events this year, a time and money thing. Didn't want to spend the cash for new front/rear track brake pads and was going to need new track rubber too. Was on FCP Euro's site (lifetime warranty replacement for pads!) and noticed that they sell Hawk DTC60 and 70's, along with Pagid yellows. I've used the Hawk pads in the past and been happy with them, although they can be pretty abrasive on the rotors. I've never used Pagid Yellows, what are people's thoughts on them? Wish FCP would sell PFC, those are the pads I've been running for a long time...
Probably going to move away from my Nitto NT01 track tires too, I've been wanting to try the CRS V2's and maybe the new Hoosier 200 tread wear tires. Any thoughts on the CRS V2's and new Hoosiers? From what I've gathered the CRS's last as long as the NT01's but are ~2 seconds faster per lap on a track like High Plains. Anyone try the Hoosier's year?

I did the math on free Hawks versus paid PFC08s. My rotor costs end up wiping out all the savings on pads pretty quickly. The PFCs work great, last, and don’t eat rotors.
I haven’t tried the new Hoosier track attacks but a buddy just ran through a set after two 3-day events. So if you’re trying to match NT01s on durability, the Hoosiers are not an option.

i run the nt01 on my 987.2 and really like them. i'll be curious to see if you find something better for a lesser price. for brakes i run girodisc rotors and their enduro pads and love them both.
Can't wait to try the CRS's myself. On the rotors, forgot if there is a cheaper 1 piece, non drilled replacement option from back in the day when I did the 350mm conversion, but if you can source $100 dollar rotors, I wouldn't hesitate to run the DTC60s. If you are stuck shelling out 400 bucks a rotor, may be worth it to jump to PFCs.
This year ran DTC60s and got 3 weekends of dual driver use in a 3800 lb 650hp sled out of the front rotors and all 4 corners of pads so we are sticking with them. Rear rotors are still nice and upgrading the cooling to try and buy another weekend out of the fronts next year. Also ran the AR1's which are a pretty good more modern version of the NT01s, corded last day of the year. We went more budget friends than stickiness.

I vote for the pagid yellow. I get close to 20 days on the rear and 25 in the front. Took about 60 days to wear out the rotors. I drive a 6-gt3ish 3200lbs.
For tires i get 8-10 days from nt-01. My friend uses thw crs v1 in his 40hp '05 mustang and gets 6 days max but some of that is because he cant get the wesr perfectly flat.....he really likes the grip so they r probably faster then the nt-01.

My brake rotors are from FCP Euro too, so free replacements there. So I'm not too concerned about rotor wear, although if I don't have to ship back a set every season I'm happy. How are the Pagid vs DTC60/70's as far as grabbiness and modulation?
I ran NT01s with at least a couple sets each of yellows and PFC 08/11 on my 996TT. Pagids work about as well as PFC new, but whereas PFC have pretty linear wear and good consistency to the end, the pagids wear quickly and get sketchier once they get past 1/2. While I definitely preferred the PFC, if you can you can replace Pagids for free, they are a fine choice.
I’ve moved on to a 997.2TT, but am running 996 GT2 sized track wheels with Conti’s 200TW XFC tires 245 & 315. Frankly on a turbo I’m more concerned with the tires simply holding up under the extreme loads than getting the last second, and these are doing pretty well. They do roll over more than NT01s, which I’ll likely switch back to since the 997 awd diff can take the supposedly much better 305-35 in the rear.

The last two track seasons I ran Hawk ER-1 Endurance pads on the front and DT 70’s in the rear.
Driving a 2000 Boxster S. I loved the combo for my events at Watkins Glen. They look barely used after 6 DE days.
I'm not concerned about the rotors as they are relatively inexpensive on the Boxster anyway.

Doc,
I used the Pagid RSL29 pads with sebro slotted rotors for many years on my 996TT and they were great. In fact, I’m using the same setup on my 996 Cup and I get great wear from the pads and rotors. Good modulation but not as much initial bite as some of the more aggressive pads.
Give it a try and see how you like them.

Another vote for the Pagid Yellow. (RS29 or RS1) Aren't too abrasive on rotors and work OK from cold for street driving. RS29 is probably a better all rounder. I have bumped up to RSl1 on the front with a slightly higher coefficient of friction.
On the 200TW the CRS V2 or the Vitour P1 are great options. Have used both and really happy with the perfomance of both. Haven't used the Hoosier but the reviews don't seem to rate it as being up the the performance and longevity of the Nankang or Vitour.

Thank you for all the answers.
i have looked some more and it looks like EBC Yellow could be an option.
I really wanted to avoid swapping pads if i could. it is 1.5 hour of drive to the track for me and i don't feel like swapping pads at the track.
my understanding is that driving on track pads on the street should be avoided for safety reasons.
