Garmin Catalyst - Difficulty in acquiring satellites.
Last two track events, different tracks, could not aquire all satellites to complete all four quadrants on the "satellite acquisition " pie chart. Parked the car in every direction possible. Best I could get was three green quadrants and one with two yellow segments. Any suggestions? Thx!

When I take it out (off the magnetic mount) I get an error message. I forgot what it says. I think something about camera not connected.

My Catalyst has performed well over the past two years, connecting to enough satellites even when the car is a pit stall at Sebring or the garage at Watkins Glen. Then I upgraded to version 5.50 before attending Sebring a week ago and the Catalyst struggled to find enough satellites even out on the starting grid. It eventually hooked up but sometimes not until well into my warm up lap. I know weather can sometimes be a factor but it's odd that I've never had trouble before the update. Also, my AiM Solo2DLv2 had no problems.

I get that on occasion but it usually clears after driving around. I’ve heard that error pops up more for those who may mount it deeper the cabin/closer to PCM, and that it’s better to give it a clear view in the wind shield.
i haven’t seen the camera error. Does it go away if you’re no longer in “Drive”?

I have it mounted high inside, so I figured the roof or windshield banner might be blocking signal. So I loosened the mount and dropped it to a clear view. A couple times it worked. Mostly none.
Also, I recently installed the most recent update.

Last season I noticed several times that my units had a slow time of obtaining a solid GPS lock prior to the first session. I have even had them fail to record the first session. This might just be placebo or a rain dance but what I do now is make sure the unit is turned on outside (not in a building or vehicle) for 5-10 minutes and check the GPS status before putting the unit in my car. You can't start a driving session without the unit in a vehicle mount due to the camera connection but you can have it powered on and let it get a good GPS lock.
Also GPS lock can randomly take longer with any device depending on cloud cover, solar flares, etc. Sometimes it is not related to the device you are using.

Garmin states that the first lock at a different location from where it’s been used last always take quite a bit longer.

I'll try the rain dance sonorous suggests. It doesn't matter how long I wait, never fully aquires the satellites. Worked fine a couple years ago, didn't use it for awhile after I got the new track car, then had this problem last few events in a row. I did update the software.
