Perez beaten by a Haas! Way to go Nico. Some redemption for Piastri after that lousy track limits call in qualifying. Poor Leclerc just keeps having bad luck.
This behavior is nothing new for Verstappen when he’s in the thick of things. We simply haven’t seen it in the last few years because he’s usually so far ahead of everyone that he just cruises to victory without a challenge. Now that he’s being pushed, his true personality is showing again.

I agree, Max did not do his legacy any favors today.

I hope once things cool off he privately apologies to Lando and in the future handles things better on track.

Dunno, but I think his legacy is going to be just fine.

Starting with the race qualifying, Oscar got robbed. That's some BS. The domino effect of taking away that lap time cascaded into the contact with LEC which messed up Charles race and the fact that if PIA starts 3rd, he probably is the one to win the race instead of George.

IMO, from watching the incident of contact back a few times, Max gives Lando enough room on the outside, but Lando doesn't take the full space, which includes the flat curbing on the outside and causes touching of both cars. Where Max was in the wrong, is that after the contact, he opened up his steering wheel to have them both go wide at the exit of T3. Clear penalty IMO, no question.

From a purely strategic point of view, situationally awareness is not just limited to on track driving. As the championship race leader, you don't have to do those kinds of moves where it jeopardies a good points finishing position. It's better to have 20 points than 25 or perhaps prevention of having 0 through a DNF. Understanding your enemy/opponent (Sun Tzu) is vital on how you act and react to what they do. Lando is 100% certain he isn't going to catch Max for the championship this year. His only objective is to try and win a race on merit against Max. Giving up 5 points when you clearing have an 8th gear problem or other issues on your car is perfectly okay.

I can only speak for myself and my F1 friends but we watched Senna race in real time. We think Senna is not the GOAT. We think he was a complete ***** and not worthy of the admiration he gets because he raced like a horse's ***. Senna was quick enough to beat anyone yet he pulled the most stupid cr@p unnecessarily.

Myself and others are seeing similarities with Max. He is the quickest guy out there but goes way too far and pulls stupid cr@p unnecessarily. I hope he stops. JMHO.

I take back my comment on the lap before the incident where Lando goes full send on the inside of Max. Lando didn’t make the corner, so Max didn’t have to give the position back. But all my other comments remain!

As far as Max having the sensibility to settle for 20 points instead of risking a DNF….well…yes a normal person would. But this trait we have seen from past champions. They only want the win. It’s all or nothing. I wouldn’t expect Max to change.

Can’t wait for Silverstone! I hope Lando can take it to Max again. I can hear the boos for Max from the British crowd right now!

What hasn't been explained yet is how does Max get into an accident, is slow to come into the pit lane, makes an extra pit stop for new tires and still finishes ahead of Checo. Can someone explain that to me please?

Verstappen's moves on Norris were not the nicest things I have ever seen. Norris made at least one dick move too. But, I have seen MUCH worse from....I don't know....just about every top driver in F1 history. So, yes, he should get penalized but it's not going to hurt his legacy one bit nor does it change my opinion of him. I would rather see him fight hard than just give in.

There are many alternatives in between those two extremes.

My daughter came with me to the Canadian F1 race last year and has retained an interest in F1 enough to talk about it.

We watched what happened today between Max and Lando and my commentary was exactly the above. "You think this is bad.....there was this guy named Senna who purposely crashed into his teammate to win the championship."

Now, do I think Max is as bad as Senna or Schumacher (can't forget how ruthlessly he drove)? No. I think he just gives no quarter which is a little bit different than an intentional crash or trying to run someone into the pit lane wall.

Max is ruthless, but I don't think he is a dirty driver.

I was thinking just what Carlos above said about Senna when this all blew up after the Norris/Verstappen bust up. (would have posted sooner, but my son took me to the PHX Mercury Indiana Fever game today in PHX as we're both proud Iowans and wanted to root on Caitlynn)
I can't imagine if Senna had raced with all the social media bullsh*t there is today if he would be thought of the same? Or some of Schumie's moves over the years??? Not defending Max per se, but he's hardly the first to make questionable moves...

I agree, that is why I hope he takes it down a notch, or holds steady, not up a notch.

I, like others here, have said before that given Max’s personality traits, he was always going to revert back to his hyper aggressive driving and anger management issues when he is being challenged at the front by a talented driver in an equally fast car. He is his Father’s son after all! That day is here it seems as the McLaren may well be as good as the Red Bull. If in the near future Max is challenged far more, he will be even more aggressive and the number of dangerous incidents will multiply exponentially; there is going to be lots of carbon fibre all over multiple tracks and the whining over the radio will be deafening with much muting necessary. It’s inevitable. F1 has become incredibly safe compared to it’s past, but Max won’t give a toss about driving someone off track in high speed corners in order to try and save his position even when it’s obvious that he’s slower.

And yes, like mentioned above he reminds me of Senna and Schumacher as they were cut throat, dirty bastards who didn't give a damn about the consequences of their actions on track.
