Great, really want to attend the WGI event this year.

I'll start with schedule for my home region - Reisentoter:

RTR PCA 2024

April 5 - 7 NJMP Lightning
May 17 - 19 Watkins Glen
June 14 16 NJMP Lightning
July 5 - 7 Watkins Glen
Sept 13 - 15 Pocono (Double infield and Southeast)
Oct 11 - 13 Summit Point Main
I am looking for a new local-ish track to try in September 2024 since Potomac has no events then. I am just outside DC in Maryland and the Pocono track is about 3-1/2 hours from me. I have not heard much about it. Would you recommend I give it a try?

Thanks.

Pocono 100% depends on which configuration you’re running, and I’ll just leave it there….

Im not a fan but many like it. The transisions from the infield to track are rough and there r very little visual cues. There r also a bunch of different configs.

I perfer either track at njmp over pocano

NJ/NCC BMW chapters on Summit Point Shenandoah, Sept. 14-15. A unique configuration no-one else runs. Good folks that run a good, clean event.

Interesting. I like Shenandoah although it can be hard on a car. What is the unique configuration? I know there are some options after the main straight. Do you have a track map from the past?

Thanks!

This. Most Pocono configurations are a bunch of cones dividing access roads from the NASCAR oval. The curbs are unpainted and there are no elevation changes. For these reasons, it's hard to develop braking and turn-in landmarks visually. Transitions between infield portions and the oval feel like you're hitting potholes. It's rough on equipment.

The short courses (Southeast) are just long-form autocross. Even though I'm only 90 minutes from there and my home region goes twice yearly, I generally avoid it. The only good thing is that most places you're likely to have an off, you will go into grass and not a wall. Also, if you blow either of the high speed turns coming off the straights on the long course, you can run off into the oval or the grass. I skipped it entirely last year. It is a good track to practice rain skills given the increased runoff room.

For those interested in open track, Max Track Time has several events on the eastern half of the country for 2024: https://www.maxtracktime.com/events

I have looked through this thread and at the NJMP site and can't find anything at NJMP in the mid-Sept to mid-Oct timeframe there. I would consider going as far as Lime Rock but the events there don't look right for me (HPDE) at that time. Mid-Ohio has a Track Time event on the perfect weekend for me at the end of September. Probably an 8-hour haul but I have a good friend in the area so it might be worthwhile. I just want to try another new track to make better use of an off month. Any experience with Track Time events?

Thoughts? I live just outside DC in suburban MD.

Thanks.

WDCR SCCA is on Summit Main Oct 5-6, which is not NJMP, but it is fun.

This map (black line) reflects the "New Jersey" configuration. It cuts out Old Ram that everyone else runs and adds turns 21, 22, 1 and 2. That short straight and the turns before & after is a sleeper - and a good place to make up a bit of time on others.

Highly recommend Mid Ohio, especially with the repave, and while you’re in the neighborhood, do a day or three at Pitt. WoooHooo…
