Default First track day experience as a passenger.

Got a sweet invite from a good friend to head out to Putnam Park near Indianapolis. I've never had an experience close to this - and my body let me know it.

I LOVE taking track virgins for rides at speed. So much fun to build up to 7/10ths and see how they handle. Start in a street car like GT3 and build to the race car. Shortest ride was a great friend who didn't even last for a warm-up lap in a 997.2 GT3 to my 18yo niece who could barely see over the dash, but was begging for more the whole time even as we moved into the comp car (had to prop her up for safety so the HALOs were actually at helmet level.

This was a fun one!

I went as a passenger with Buddy Rice in a Radical (the fastest one and holy sh*t) a couple years ago for several laps and thank God I had my HANS on! The cornering was something, but the braking was most impressive. I have NEVER braked that LATE.... Luckily I've never gotten sick as a passenger when lapping, and I sure as hell wasn't going to when riding with an Indy 500 winner!!

It was the braking I think that really got to me. The acceleration and corners weren't a problem. But, the hard braking was (for some reason) nothing I was prepared for.

Now my friend wants me to do HDPE and get out there on my own.

Ummm, what’s the point of wearing a HANS if you run the shoulder harness under it?

It's not like you get a day younger every 24 hours.

He'll probably wear it the same way in the wheelchair.
