Exactly what I thought. Lots of IMSA spec GT4 cars get under 2.10 at Sebring during tests. Barometric adjustments and other BOP changes affect their best lap times at the races. Also, fastest pros often don’t qualify the GT4 cars.

2:10.885 Jan Heylen in IMSA legal trim…

Next closest was Max Root about half a second off…

Sure, we might wish the 718 GT4 CS RS is closer to the 992 GT3 and 992 GT3 Cup, but it looks pretty good.

Let’s see how the car improves with a little rubbing on it. Good run by Skeen and a great run by Joe in his 992 GT3.
I’ve never driven a cayman. But I’ve driven other much older cup cars with less favorable power / weight faster than this at Sebring. And I’m not even that good at Sebring - and certainly not at the level of Skeen.

So it was more of an observation around what appears to be lack of performance based purely on power/weight.

Does the added weight vs say a 992 cup really account for 7-8 seconds? It doesn’t. Pdk vs true racing box? Not much there. Tire size ? Not sure what the size difference is. Rear suspension? Hmmm.

I somehow think the differences in front suspension between a 992 Cup and GT4 RS CS are as big or bigger influence on lap times than the difference in rear suspension.

Out of the 37 992 GT3 Cup cars out in session 2 of the Sebring test right now, a substantial majority are in the 2:05-2:06-2:07 range.

^^Not sure exactly what time it started, but it's raining there now. It was in the 80's with a 10 mph wind. Not exactly fast conditions.

They’re long sessions. As you can see from my screenshot, most are in the pits right now. Here’s from the dry first session.

This is somewhat speculative and silly because we don’t know if he was running stickers or what the fuel load was…I am just commenting because it’s fun to discuss race cars!

I know in GT4 qualifying, tire peak is usually the 3 rd lap. In any case, the 992 cup vs GT4CS difference is probably 5s+/- rather than 7 seconds. Bigger tires on the cup must account for higher cornering speeds especially corner entry. Speaking to pros who drive 992 cups and GT4 cars, the cups aero and tire package is closer to GT3 car. Speculative of course.

The very first weekend in 2021, Seb Prialx did a low 2:01!

Here are the aggregate results from the two sessions today. Almost twice as many cars this year.

Second session was quicker for many. Going to be great season!

That Leh is the fastest Pro/Am is both awesome and exciting! I can’t wait to watch the race in less than two weeks.

Here's the results for Practice 2 for the MPSC cars (718 GT4 CS RS) with the fast guys in most of the cars.

They're competitive, that's all that matters.

Tom Collingwood was the MAN this morning in Practice 1! Top of the charts! Congrats, Tom.

fastest was a 2:10.9. Maybe we should tell them we are all disappointed with their pace
