Folks that tow a tire trailer with the 997, what style of bumper mounts did you have?

Thinking about a Leroy tire trailer https://leroyengineering.com/collect...oducts/paddock having seen more than a few at my last DE in October. Any others to consider? thanks for your reply and excellent photos!

FYI, taking the car to Goldcrest Motorsports this morning to have my new LN deep sump oil pan installed, so we can run some fresh oil for the winter and make sure it's nicely seated before the season starts. I'll post a couple of photos, probably on a fresh thread.
Yes, drilling the holes for the receiver is what I obsessed over. The actual drilling was easier than I thought it would be. Working slowly helped me avoid making mistakes and/or breaking anything. I guess that I have a small concern of what might happen if I get hit in the rear with the new, more substantial bumper mounts. My 997.2 stock mounts do look flimsy with respect to supporting whatever I put in/on the hitch, so I did use the mounts that came with the hitch receiver kit. It looks like there is still plenty of stuff that can collapse before the engine compartment is damaged, but ...

I cannot comment on a tire trailer - my intention is to only use a hitch mounted bike rack with the 911. I have another car that I use for DE, and I am still using high performance street tires on it to drive to and from the track. The people further down the slippery slope are telling me that I am only 1-2 steps away from needing a trailer ...

Ahhh yes, I am already on the slippery slope...just mounted all-season tires to the stock wheels Monday. The wall mount tire rack (from Tire-Rack) arrived yesterday, so I can stash the new Apex track wheels mounted with Nitto NT01's, when they arrive in early February. Looking at different tire trailers... yikes!

Do you recall what the stock mounts looked like when you took them out? Did they look like the top picture in my original post or the 2nd picture? Thank you very much!

What did you use for a wiring harness to be able to power the trailer lights?

Weld up a ball to the tow hook? Isn't the screw hole behind the plate on 997? Then just screw it in and out as needed.

Sporttows said the hook the chains to the tow hook. They have a threaded hole for doing that on their rig. I ordered it recently and it should be here in a couple of days. I'll shoot some photos and post what came in the box and how the tow hook works.

On my 987.2 Cayman I used this:

CURT 56146 Powered 3-to-2-Wire Splice-in Trailer Tail Light Converter, 4-Pin Wiring Harness.
I got the color codes and wires to tap from All Data DIY for the 987.2 Cayman and happy to share to see if it maps to 997.2. I was able to tap a plug that was right beside the power tap for the rear engine compartment fan and was able to use an add a fuse to the fuse for that fan.

I chose that harness vs the old nonpowered u-haul harness I used on my 986 boxster, since I heard the newer cars were more sensitive to voltage on the light circuits and I didn't want any errors. I moved my tow hook to the right and put a similar eyebolt on the left and put my safety chains on that.

I know that doesn't give 997 specifics but I believe the wiring harness will work well.

This is a fantastic idea! Very good idea. I just used this idea on my new to me 718 Cayman S and towed 1200 miles last weekend to a track day and back. 1 7/8 ball threaded into my 718 Tow hook and under the license plate. D-ring around the tow hook to attach the safety chains. Tow hook is designed to pull the 3,000lb car onto a flat bed tow truck? So I carelessly pulled a 75lb trailer and 200lbs of track wheels 1,200 miles.

**please don't be dangerous and follow my advice ***

How'd you thread the tow ball into the bumper?
