What a great two days! When I showed up to this CVR DE the only person who knew I was bringing this car the was registrar. Most of the first comments were something along the lines of "you are going to get crucified on RL!" Yeah, I've said a few things about Cup cars.
The car far exceeded my expectations, and for now, the car exceeds my skill level. I am only at 1/3 throttle through the first half of the esses because I was trying to be smart and not overdue it. I am happy with a 1.57.83 as my best lap knowing that as I get more comfortable the time will drop. I'm leaving time everywhere. My goal was just to get familiar with the car and not become a "Rennlist cautionary tale." "So this a**hole buys a Cup and wrecks it on the first day at the Glen........"
If I self-assess, I think the low hanging fruit is:
1. Go faster in the esses.
2. Brake later
3. Roll more speed into corners
Thanks again for all the well wishes and the much deserved crap. I'm excited to get to know the car better.
Lastly, I will say that this car is motivating me to get in shape (other than round). It is a much more physical car to drive.
I'm off to the hospital as the commercials say if you have an erection lasting longer than a few hours it should be checked out!

Yes, in addition to your self assessment: trust the back end of the car, and manage the front end
And yes, physical conditioning is key at this level. Core strength and endurance and ability to process heat.

Me in a Cup car is slightly better than Covid-19, and slightly worse than murder-hornets, on the 2020 leaderboard!

Now if I could only figure out how to get the car rolling in first gear!
That is not a clutch pedal - its an on off switch with about an inch of throw. I stalled the car about 50 times over the course of two days.

Just gently let the clutch out AT IDLE and then drive off. Don't try to rev the motor as you would with a street based clutch/manual transmission combination

Okay, I'm going to throw this out there. I let the clutch out slowly at idle until I have enough momentum to fully release and then I accelerate use the clutch again to shift into second and third gears, on the blend line at most tracks and then I don't use the clutch again until I'm pitting in, downshifting into second and first. Triple plate clutch is basically, as noted an on/off switch.
Oh, and don't forget to empty the water out of your compressor regularly or your flappy paddles will do you no good...

Now you tell me! The crusty old dude who manages the track at WGI was flailing his arms at me after I stalled several times in a row when he told me I was clear to roll. Can't say I blamed him!
