Dear Cup Car Drivers,
One of my favorite movies of all time is The Big Red One with Lee Marvin. The plot of the movie is that Lee Marvin is a grizzled old sergeant who takes his squad of soldiers from D-Day all the way to the end of the war. In one scene, there is a battle inside an insane asylum, and one of the patients picks up a gun and starts firing. While he is firing the gun this very insane patient says, “I am one of you. I am sane.” It is meant to illustrate the absurdity of war.
This is a very roundabout way to say that I bought a 991.1 Cup Car in GTC6 class.
I’m currently at Watkins Glen where I did my first laps ever today in a 911 – all my previous track experience has been in a 944 and Cayman. The day was magical and I feel like Jesus Himself was pushing the car forward, and at the same time, pushing it down to give extra grip. The horsepower, brakes and grip are insane! Cups cars are heroin and I think I am hooked.
I’m going to have to learn how to dive-bomb properly so I am hoping that other members of the Cup car community can instruct me. I already have the air of arrogant indifference to people so I can already check the box on that skill-set. I’m not sure I am ready to learn how to go “Cup car bowling”, but maybe if we get to go to Sebring next year someone can show me the property technique at T7, a/k/a the “Cup Car Bowling Alley”.
When you see me next on track please remember that I am coming up to speed and still quite a bit slower than my fellow Cup car drivers. (I can’t believe I even get to say that!) Please treat me nice and treat me fair. Which is to say, please treat me better than a Spec Boxster who refuses to yield a corner during a practice session, which is also to say, somewhat better than a piece of bubblegum which you stepped on with a new pair of shoes.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out on track when the 2021 racing season begins.
Very truly yours,
Luigi Vampa
PS – Can you believe how those GTB1 guys drive?

Luigi,
Very nice ride, congrats. I'm presuming that the previous owner prepped you on how to come in hot with your humble announcement of your new Cup? Next time don't mention you ever owned a 944... just saying...
