Default Yet another use for old safety gear...

We got flooded out of our 1 story ranch style house a few years back. Our old fire safety plan was "Open the nearest door or window, step outside and run away!"

We moved into a little 3 story townhouse. First floor, garage and office, second floor living / dining / kitchen, third floor bedrooms. We realized that the most likely fire scenario was something in the garage or kitchen catches on fire while we are sound asleep in our beds, and we wake up to the first and second floors and single stairwell burning - and we are 35 feet up on the air on the third floor. Along with getting an emergency ladder we can throw out a window, I now keep my current and former driving gear in the closet with us on the third floor, instead of in my track car:

Balaclava, gloves, socks, driving suit, and full face mask with breathing filters (from some old home projects). Push comes to shove, we could try to walk out thru the fire...
