Hippies in the ditches; burning buses in the bog. Things have pretty much gone downhill since '69

I had a fantastic time.
15 years old. My ride (My sister) disappeared the first day with my shirt, shoes and wallet. Didn't sleep for three days.
I'll never forget The Who playing as the pre-dawn edged past the night or Jimmy Hendrix wailing away with Star Spangled banner in the end.

It was beautiful..

Hitched back to NYC after the last act. They dropped me off by the GW bridge and a NYC cop bought me a pair of flip flops and a subway token (circa 1969)
Went home and slept for 2 days.

A perfect end to a perfect weekend
You should write a book. I don't think it's been told from a 15 year olds perspective.

^^That's funny^^

We live about an hour away from the track.

The cancellation was met with mixed emotion, small businesses - disappointed, people who live in the area - relieved

I can see both sides, but with all the construction mess going on in town IMO the last thing they need is a gigantic influx of people, temporary or not.

The funny thing is that I did not think then or the years since that my little adventure was remarkable. I was supposed to be at Summer School, but had a semester break. My parents traveling in Europe were reading the International Herald Tribune - On the front page: NY State Thruway Shutdown. They looked at each other. "Uh, oh.. Do you think Danny is there?......" That was funny.

The summer of 1969 was marked by amazing things. The same summer, I watched with a friend in rapt awe as the fuzzy image of an astronaut climbed down a ladder and took those first steps on the moon. At the same time, I was taking my first journey of another kind not uncommon in 1969.

A singular summer in 1969 for a shy boy who grew up to become a shy teenager. How did I wind up doing all of these things? That is the real story driven by blissful innocence.

And meantime - a war raged on in Vietnam.

Replaced free love with planned parenthood.
Replaced coke and lsd with avacado on toast.
Replaced Alvin Lee with Jay-Z.
Replaced VW bugs with Uber

Yeah, definitely went downhill in the last 50 years...

I did not attend the 1969 Woodstock, having graduated in class of 1962, and gainfully employed at Eastman Kodak. The hippie movement was post my time in college.

The connection to the 1969 Woodstock is I was a classmate of Yasgur's son at Cornell University. I would drive by the Yasgur Farm when traveling to Ithaca from Chappaqua, NY

I went to Woodstock too, my first concert. I was 8 and a half. Went with dad and two teenage girls.

Wish I could remember more about it... I didn't hear the warning about the brown acid.

The Woodstock concert was officially canceled today.

The three-day anniversary festival was supposed to take place Aug. 16-18 at Watkins Glen International racetrack in Watkins Glen, New York, about 115 miles from the original concert site. A series of snags ruined the plans, from the loss of a sponsor to permit denials to the loss of the venue. Jay-Z, Dead & Company, and John Fogerty pulled out last week after organizers said the festival would be held in Maryland instead of New York. A smaller, unrelated celebration is still planned at the original Woodstock site, with performances by Ringo Starr, Fogerty, and Santana.

Speaking of the repaving at the interior roads at WGI, I was there in June and in driving back to the hotel in town my new Hoosiers got completely ruined by picking up pebbles. They are now pebble-treaded all the way around.

Anyone else experience this?

I assume I have to toss them. There is no way I can remove all of them.

You can scrub them off next time on the track by going slower in corners and weaving back and forth in the straights but make sure no point bys. Go out as the last car in the start of the session. As the tire thread warms up, the pebbles are released but pay attention
