Default Temporary bumper/headlight protection for track event?

I've got my first track event at a track coming up in a couple of weeks and I am very excited!

I'd like to add something to my car (996) to help protect the bumper, headlights, and even part of the hood if possible. What are my options for temporary protection that I can apply and remove fairly quickly and won't damage my paint?

Obviously a bra comes to mind, but do they flap too much and damage the finish at high track speeds?

What about any special forms of tape or vinyl?

Anything else?

Thanks for your suggestions...

Very Excited?

Why... you're the first ever! Have a great time!

If you have a good quality bra that is a snug fit, this will do nicely. All the usual bra rules apply DOUBLE. You must make sure the bra and the surface underneath are scrupulously clean (as you normally would I assume). If it gets wet or gets a lot of crud under it, it needs to be removed and recleaned scrupulously again. If it is a wet event, you won't get the sand spray from other cars anyhow.

If your bra does flap and/or leaves the common scuff areas under normal use, you might make note of them (usually under the band across the hood and over the fender lip) and protect those areas with a good coat of wax and then a strip of racer's tape.

A good coat of wax and then racer's tape will do for your wheel lips if you are so inclined. You can also tape your lenses. Many people resort to 3M clear film for their lamps if the car will be tracked often. This also helps protect against "bullseyes" on the street too.

Now... go and have fun!!

The SpeedLingerie.com bra always seems like an effective but pricey alternative to the regular, old bras. I don't know anyone who has one, though.

On my 993, I use ElephantRacing.com's track skins to protect the hood. It's the red center and silver sides on the hood. I also applied some RTA vinyl ala 550 Spyder on the fender/headlight tunnels to prevent small pieces of gravel from doing a tap dance on the paint.

Mag Bra's have been used for years. Only concern I've heard is that there could be rocks that hit in between the two hood pieces, which can be addressed with a length of tape joining the two pieces.

For the headlights, I would consider Xpel (3M) headlight film.
They offer a $1000 replacement warranty if a headlight is damged while their film is applied.
I put it on my RSA and Cayenne and was very happy with the results.

For the other bits, I have seen people at the track do a quick detail (Griot's SpeedShine or equiv) and then apply wide 3M painters tape (the blue stuff) all over the nose and bumper. At the end of they day they simply remove it and reapply some SpeedShine. Looks a bit odd in your rearview mirror, but seems to work
