Nice that you could make it down there for the event.
You are in a very cool line of work that allows you do do these things anytime you want. I have been working towards that, and of my 50 days on track last season, at least 26 of those were midweek where I needed to take off work, but I don't really "take off" work as I am working all the time when I'm NOT in the office.
Lucky in a way that today's technology lets me work from the track via wifi and email and cell phone.
That GT2RS lap musta been so awesome to see in person. When I grow up, I wanna be Peter Krauss!!

Three Wheelin'
Would love to know how much of this breaking the zr1 record is improved tires....
The GSUM in the video reads a bit higher than your average street or dot competition tire.
It seems more alike to Hoosier R7 or better

I saw they had tire warmers on the tires during the day. I would be curious if they were overheating of just keeping warm?

I knew it was going to happen, have colleagues who were there from both Michelin and Racelogic (pics from them) and have seen the data from both cars, but I was not present for the record run.
When it’s your job for as long as it has been mine, you make good friends and colleagues that date back decades. They were all giddy as school kids!
Like you, the connected world allows many of us to do business from anywhere, any time. Not sure that’s always a good thing.
While I did not witness it in person, I’ve seen what went into it and it’s a Herculean effort, by everyone from Porsche through Michelin and their test engineers to Racelogic, David and Randy.
It’s a remarkable achievement. More to come...
There is some latency, resulting in perhaps some overshoot, between the real-time logged data and the data rendered, encoded and written on the video.
That said, it’s not far off. These are much closer to the best current R-comps than they are to even the best ultra high performance OEM fitments from even a few years ago. That’s an engineering feat, for sure.
They ARE a manufacturer OEM fitment, if I’m not mistaken. That was the purpose of the whole test and video. As much for Michelin as for their OEM partner Porsche, at the newly renamed track.
Gotta go! Closed test at VIR today for an OEM manufacturer and they’re thrashing some cars right now, probably Billy Johnson or one of the great vehicle dynamics engineers from the blue oval by the sound of it. Can hear it from my office with the door open...
