I’m pretty sure the intent is to include any/all air-cooled 911 that would run in E.

I plan to give the TD set up a go at Road Atlanta. I spent a fair amount of time in left & right seat of TD equipped "E" cars. I think the tire will prove to be a fun, and more sustainable setup than the R7.

Worst case, one can always switch back. No loss in trying.

After having my car repaired from my incident in NJ the body shop informed me they fixed a lot of unrelated cracks and stresses to my car. (chassis). It's their opinion that these cars were not meant for the modern slicks that we have been using nor are they able to handle the ultra stiff torsion bars. I asked their thoughts on the TD tire and they said anything to make the car a little softer would help. This info is coming from a Porsche restoration specialist shop. I personally don't like the idea of less grip when on track but may try a set of TD's this season at some point.

Well, the repairs to the chassis will have made your car stiffer. That’s what happened to mine after my wipe out at road Atlanta in 2011. ;-)

do rules allow that?

I thought that the issue is we can not gusset or reinforce our chassis as per the rules

I know a car that had all the cracks repaired about 5 years ago, and it's starting to crack again.

You have those 4 "roof stiffening" boxes that were cut out/welded back for your cage welding, a process banned in some countries...
