approved GoPro mounts for HPDE?
Hi all,
I'm getting ready for my 3rd hpde event next week. I'd like to put a gopro or similar inside my car.
What are the best mounts that have been approved by clubs or at least folks have had good success with staying put and least vibration?
If it matters I am driving a 997.2.
Thanks!
Jeff

FWIW, PCA UCR region says that you must have a solid mount. They specify it must be metal to metal but I'm not sure that's a hard and fast rule as I expect a clamp on a roll cage would be perfectly fine.
They DO NOT allow anything to be just suction cupped to the windshield. They WILL allow a suction cup if it's got a wire tether attaching it to the RVM or something.
So... pretty much anything that's not depending on a suction cup to keep it from flying around the cabin seems good to go.

Thanks, man!
I will have to think what I could mount to, since my interior is gone stock.
Really appreciate your reply and information

where to mount a clamp in a 911 for camera?
A friend just recommended the manfrotto magic arm to use in the car. It seems to use clamping to secure itself.
Anyone have an idea where a clamp can hold inside a 911 to record video?
Here is an Amazon link to the product https://www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-244-Variable-Friction-Bracket/dp/B000J4FONU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538507367&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=manfrotto+magic+arm&dpPl=1&dpID=41Rw%2 BCjU3TL&ref=plSrch

I've driven with the Alpine Mountain Region and Rocky Mountain Region. I use a suction cup on the windshield. I then secure that with a large tie-wrap on the mount that is secured through three of the vent slats just under the windshield. That large tie-wrap is itself tie-wrapped to the mount. (The tie-wrap from the mount to the vents is a large loop. Thus that needs secured to the mount itself.)

You didn't mention if it was aiming inside the cockpit or outside. I use a standard sticky mount to the windshield behind the RVM to shoot the track out front. And then metal band attach it around RVM as regulations require. I also have a rokform mount for my phone that I have attached to the rennline hard mount to the right of the center console. The phone records the telemetry using Trackaddict and also films the in car footage using the cell phone camera. I also have this hard tied to the car as per regs. Have about 150 laps around COTA like this and it worked great.
When you put it together it looks like this.

Track Addict picks up all of the data. Oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp, rpms, and voltage on everything. All I do is make sure that when I am using race render to make the video - 1. pick a template that has the brake displayed (some of them don't) or 2. add it to whatever template I use from the setup boxes on the right hand side of the screen. The data should be there. I actually stopped using the braking display because if I leave the PSM on (like I did while driving in the rain at COTA 4 weeks ago) it shows every time the car taps a brake to do its magic. This happens alot more than we realize and is very subtle most of the time but it shows so much artifact in the video it is distracting. I watched it and said, "There's no way I hit the brakes after the apex on that turn, especially if I am under full acceleration." But the car did on one wheel or another. If I have PSM turned off, which I do unless it is wet, then it doesn't do that and I add the brakes to the display.

PS- I just watched the second video again and if you look at turn 10 as I come back down the hill you see the PSM hit twice mid turn when I had it under full acceleration because it sensed the slip angle as I moved past the apex. No way I tapped the brakes twice there. lol

Oh! So you aren't getting ANY telemetry from the car? I misunderstood. Yes I use a $11 bluetooth ODBII reader. Picked up one for each vehicle.
It is this one but there are dozens like it. http://a.co/d/6oAH1oj They all seem to work pretty well. I use it with the Torque app too in order to reset codes and whatnot. When you set up your track addict, make sure it sees the wireless gopro, and make sure it sees the bluetooth ODBII scanner. It will capture everything the car experiences. Then you can just add what you want into your video to analyze.
Hope this helps,
