Default PCA DEs / West Coast Region

Looking for a PCA that does DEs relatively often in the West Coast region, but specifically provides a lot of seat time (5 sessions or more) and does not overpack the groups. Any suggestions / reviews to share?

Since your avatar photo appears to be set at Willow Springs I assume you are in SoCal. For DE, PCA San Diego Region does several events per year at Willow, Chuckwalla, Buttonwillow, etc.

Another option is the POC Performance Driving Series (PDS): point by passing, 10-11 events per year, 4-5 sessions per day, free instruction (usually from racers), and typically 20 or less folks in a run group. PDS events are run in conjunction with the Time Trial and Cup Racing series which allows you to watch some great racing between your sessions.

Cheers,

As a regional PCA HPDE event chair, I haven offen wondered if the market is there for higher fees w/ the guarantee of Less cars in a run group. Fees are a factor of history “this how we always do it” and the math of track rental and fixed/vataible costs divided by number of drivers/sessions.

Would enough drives sign up at higher price point on a particular track weekend if car per sission limit were reduce? Would there be enough takers?

50% more $s for 25% few cars in a session?
Double typical fee for half the cars per session?

Some for profit track HPDE vendors pushes this “value” point.

With HPDE events most weekends at a track, who will try this model to see if there is enough demand to not lose their shirt?

Good question. Here's a club out here in NorCal (not PCA) that is trying out a model with 7x30min sessions per run group. That's 3.5 hours of track time a day with a max of 25 cars on track at a time. I'm not sure they'll be successful, but it's certainly a different approach.

Cheers,
In the advance Time Trials group with the POC you have open passing

The Porsche Owners Club PDS and Time Trial series are great. You have the added bonus of having fun races to watch between your sessions. The San Diego PCA also has an excellent time trial series with tons of track time.

In other words 2 run groups since I doubt very much that la la land will allow 3 groups @ 10+ hrs on track and thereby encroach upon the residential neighborhood and their peace and quiet time.

Chin has slightly higher fees and fewer cars . They seem to be doing ok.

Yes, I think the model would work. Most other clubs that do this seem to be doing fine and some have been around for awhile at this point. Some offer more time and/or less cars per group. The usp a PCA club would offer is the Porsche community gathering aspect (majority like cars, minds, etc.), and if you're still going to run it as a not-for-profit, a competitive price to all the other clubs who are doing the opposite.

Thanks for the heads up, will check some of this out. For those who ran with PCA San Diego, is it 4 sessions / 25 mins per? Or more than that?

We usually run 6 session on Saturday, 4 session on Sunday and then do timed runs Sunday afternoon. There is usually plenty of track time for the weekend.
Schedule is here:
