My wife got a Cup car!
Well, not a Porsche cup car, but it's still pretty exciting to us!
After a long search and debate and a lot of encouragement from the folks at MMC (thanks Alex Wolenski), we decided to get a Global Mx-5 Cup. These are the cars which are used in the Battery Tender series. MMC allowed us to test drive a new Global Mx-5 and we both felt it was a ton of fun.
The cars are all built at Long Road Racing in Statesville, NC. Alana and Glenn Long were a pleasure to deal with on the build. We've also met Tom and many occasions over the years - also a great guy and driver.
The cars come all white from Hiroshima and are stripped down and built at LRR. There are very few options as the car is ready to rock. We opted for a painted interior and cage, a Smartycam, and extra sets of mounted dry and wet rubber. The car comes with an AiM dash (same for all cars). Because it is built as a spec car, most 'cheatable' things are sealed. The car is delivered with the original Miata seat in it and a set of Sabelts in the trunk. They sold me a kit to convert the Miata seat to an office chair. It's great! We had an OMP Halo seat mounted and a cool box by MMC.
While it's no rocket ship, I have to say that it is fun to drive. While this will be my wife's ride 95% of the time, I'm really looking forward to seat time in it. I think it will be a challenging car to learn how to drive fast.
Behold chassis #147!
Yes, of course we went for Hello Kitty graphics. Irene loves the Rosie the Riveter reference. The nice people at Mixture Signs in Newburgh NY asked us for some graphics that we liked and they came up with the design on the car. It's purrfect.
They also put on a nice "Meowta" windshield sticker and tail sticker. We are very pleased with the graphics they did.
Gratuitous pics. The guys at MMC asked me if they could do a 'special' picture with the car. See if you can figure out which one it is (hint: look for the giant cat).

Thanks guys. We did some shakedown sessions at MMC and everything seems great. Next trip will be Group 52 at Watkins where I don't think it will keep up with the Indy cars.
My first ever track days were in a 1980 Rx-7. All these years later I'm back to Mazda with the Global Mx-5, Formula Mazda and a 1979 Rx-7. I've regressed!

That is absolutely phenomenal!! The livery is perfect, love the Rosie reference! Wish you both nothing but the best with it, enjoy! Does this mean something gets sacrificed track days or are you just buying a bigger trailer??

Thanks Paul. No, the 2-car is it. We'll keep the Atom for those times when another car isn't ready.
