Default Sounds from Lime Rock

Low-quality iPhone video I shot yesterday at West Bend during the IMSA Northeast Grand Prix. It was really interesting to hear all of the different engine and exhaust notes as the field came through. Porsche sounded like Porsche, Ferrari like Ferrari, and Corvette like Corvette. The Ford GT makes a weird, muted chuffing noise likely due to the turbo V6. And the Lexus also makes a very strange noise, which is odd since it's a naturally aspirated V8--they're the blue cars, 3rd and 4th in the below video clip. Overall a great day. Amazing cars everywhere, not just on track. Some cool historics along the merchant concourse, and serious hardware in the infield parking. Dedicated parking in the Porsche Corral was a big plus. And I got to chat with both PJ Jones, all-time LRP lap record holder (43.112 seconds in the early '90s in a Toyota GTP car), and the one and only Skip Barber. I was a happy boy.

Interesting. With the Lexus in West Bend, it sounded more like an inherent engine noise. Maybe it's a strange firing pattern for the V8. Just sounded very odd, unlike any engine I've heard before. Not very pleasant. Definitely not a Ferrari scream or Corvette growl/rumble. More of a weird vibration noise. Sounded like a recording of a kid's bicycle with playing cards stuck in the spokes, that had been made louder and shifted to a lower frequency.

Here are a couple closeup pics of the new RSR exhaust I managed to get while watching one of the RSRs go through the pre-race tech. No more mufflers there, and much louder than the older RSRs racing in GTD. Nice raspy (and loud) sound.

So glad to see the RSR finally win this season.

No back window means backup camera. The lens is clearly visible above the "CH".
