Default Need tire rack for open featherlite

I want to add a tire rack to my featherlite trailer, what is the best way to do that. I've seen the factory tire rack but also it looks like folks use the Trailex tires racks.

^^What he said^^

Trailex rack, mount it to the outside of the trailer frame. Only racks I've seen that I thought were better were custom built.

It would seem to me that using another manufacturer's rack and having it modified to fit could be more expensive than doing a custom 1 off.

Guy I bought my featherlight trailer from had a custom wheel rack and storage box made. Guy charged him $3000.

So, no, doing something custom is definitely not cheaper than going with the Trailex wheel rack.

That is ridiculous... I didn't even pay 1/3 of that for totally custom design and fabrication...

You are talking about a rack and a box. Apples and oranges. Anyway, no way to tell how custom that combo is and/or how much the rack itself would've cost (you didn't provide a pic with your claim). Then again a used seller can claim all kinds of numbers as long as the end price satisfies the buying customer.

Sounds more in the ballpark.

He gave me the invoice, it wasn't a claim. Here's a pic. Has two doors on each side to store the race ramps, then two doors on the front of the trailer to access two storage shelves, plus the wheel rack on the top.

Strangely enough there wasn't a wheel retaining bar for the wheel rack when I bought it, so I had one fabbed up. It's nice enough but I wouldn't have paid $3000 for it, it's not that nice.

docwytce, your set up and price is legit, I looked at that trailer and really wanted another 2'.

I almost bought that trailer just to remove the front box and put it on a 20' featherlight.

The guy who fabbed the front box isn't interested in doing another.

Great find

Trailex tire rack is $600. Even a moron like me can modify it and mount it for almost nothing.

+100 for the trailex rack on the featherlite. When you order it, they will make the cross beams to your specified length to match the trailer.

To mount it, you drill a few holes in the side rails of the trailer and secure with stainless hardware. You really don't have to modify anything.

Do the Trailex. They sell these for featherlite all the time. They will cut the bars right lengths for the widths. Took me an afternoon to assemble and bolt to the trailer.
