Default Walter Rohrl crashes 918!

Now that's embarrassing.

Anyone here speak German and can shed more light on what happened? It's a long video and looks like one of those laptime shootouts with modified cars. I suppose the 918 was there to represent hypercars for perspective.

Most important of course is that herr Rohrl was completely unharmed and the car looks fixable. I wonder if this was a factory car or a customer car.

To rub salt on wound, the 918's laptime was soundly trumped by what looks like a tuned Vette! DOH!

Rohrl almost saved it - little bump to the wall isn't going to phase him or the car.

He is not getting any younger. They really should find some younger guys to give it a go out there.

Looks like a fractured thumb or tore some ligaments at the very least. Watch the in car when he hits the wall how violent that wheel snaps around and how he holds is left hand after. He was doing well not tucking his thumbs until he braced for impact. Bet that was sore the next day.

Porsche lets a number of their younger guys have a go, Jörg Bergmeister, etc...

I rode with WR a couple months ago, and if he's lost a step, which I guess theoretically he must have, I can't imagine what he must have been like in his prime.

Take cars to the limit and it's a question of when, not if, no matter how good you are. It did look like a bump upset the car...
