I was surfing YouTube last night and I came across this video of a Singer 911.

Enjoy

So..... Bottom line - I cant afford a Singer. It's the most beautiful car I've ever seen, though. I've lusted after these things for the last few years. I recently bought what I think is an appropriate working-class-guy (who admittedly has always been a Mustang guy) fun car - GT350R...but.... I think I might have one more project in me.

Is there a thread or has there been an effort by a hobbyist to create a Singer-like quality 911? I'm stubborn and dumb enough to consider something like this.

Love your car, OP - love it!

I think a lot of build threads on here have merit or are close to Singer
quality in some aspects. Those seem like great things to emulate.

Once you read about Singer you realize the unique
value - in addition to the shaping work and style that Rob Dickinson created
is the combination of top-quality components - CF, leather weave, paint, nickel work, etc.;
access to suppliers and craftsmanship that is very hard to come by along with tremendous effort in making everything work together with extremely high quality.

I'm pretty convinced it's not replicable for most, much less for any significant cost savings. Of course the journey may be most of the reward.

So you can probably create something yourself that's ultimately just as rewarding by DIY. But
it's not gonna be cheap in either money or time.

Easy way to find inspiration is to search for lightweight 964 build threads - here are some of my favorites:

Thanks laranja! That's very helpful!

I agree - the combined areas of craftsmanship in the Singer is staggering and that's the likely challenge.

Need to make so much more money asap! Amazing. What do you guys think; Singer new 4.0, RUF CTR 2017, or Sharkwerks 4.1?

I don't think they built any RGT8s. There was a black 997.1 turbo based RGT8 prototype, a green 997.2 turbo based car and a yellow 991.1 based car. I haven't seen pictures of any more than that.

4.1 in a CUP car sounds awesome. BBI Autosport have built crazy similar builds.

BGB TTS with PDKS upgrade are a reality that's so hard to resist.
Playing the powerball every week so I can buy one of those industry leading companies.

A close friend took delivery of his new Singer tonight after a 2 year wait, and took it for a break-in drive shortly after it was dropped at the hotel by the Singer crew. With 4 miles on the odometer. I now pray to a new god. The Singer is sublime, from the way the engine revs, to the feel of each material you touch, to the thoroughly analog yet modern handling. Mass produced factory cars can never feel the same again. Congrats to the new daddy.

That looks awesome. Love the interior. You are very lucky to have been able to drive a Singer. I agree its a hard package to beat especially when comparing to a new sports car - considering power to weight ratio, quality of materials, and analog feel.
