918 vs P1 , evo issue 200 . Winner spoiler alert
The 918 doesn’t just match the McLaren’s accelerative punch it feels half as exciting again, with a feral race car scream that animates neck hair like a field of wheat in a stiff breeze…the Porsche leaves with the laurels.’

P1 got nothing on the 918 for exhaust sounds, one is a turbo-ed car with the exhaust at the rear of the car, the other is a NA car with the exhaust 2 feet from the driver's ears. You have driven both, you know the sounds intimately.

I disagree. Porsche are selling their car much after the other two and they have only just finished it. They are also trying to sell nearly 2.5x as many as McLaren are. If they'd only offered 349 it would have been sold out last year.

McLaren cut their production number 25%, from 500 to 375 in order to 'sellout'. If one adds the 70 or so on the 'wait list', it still hasn't reach 500 yet.

Porsche on the other hand has yet to reach 300 units sold (as of August 1).
And this despite the fact that the 918 is arguably more interesting (and perhaps advanced) from an engineering standpoint, and more versatile in terms of day-to-day use. And not to mention, less expensive (even with WP).
As a friend of mine who works for PCNA said (paraphrasing), "People are buying the P1 and LaFerrari. Porsche is selling the 918."

It's not so much the total allocated production numbers (918 versus the 399/P1 or 450/LafFerrari) it's that McClaren has already sold 399 units and LaFerrari has already sold 450.
Porsche on the other hand has yet to reach 300 units sold (as of August 1).

Not sure where you get that 300 number, Porsche was past that number August 1st 2013!! They have less than 200 left to sell world wide back in April when I visited the factory.
Unless of course you were referring to how many sold in the USA alone.
Btw, FYI, McLaren sold 375, not 399.

Again, I have no horse in this race. Just commenting on how I think PAG botched the marketing aspect of this car to some extent.

So your 3rd party contact is no better (possibly worse) than what many of us were told, read or heard from Porsche personnel and executives, at the current 700+.
So please stop acting, or insisting that your number is the definitive one, unless you can provide more insight and background that what you already have.
At this stage of the game, I really don't think Porsche gives a hoot what McLaren or Ferrari's doing. They've built a great car, and will now concentrate on selling, building, and delivering the remainders of their cars to customers, and pass on/down what ever they learned from the endeavor for future vehicles.

I put my money down just over a year ago and at the time they told me I was number 110-111 in north america(411 for total run) so the 300 number could possibly be correct for PCNA. That would support the worldwide number being less than 200 left.

I see that this topic causes much unnecessary consternation. I apologize for bringing it up, and will not do so again.
As it is, it's largely irrelevant. Since we should be celebrating the first deliveries of the 918s to their owners and evo crowning the 918 the better car over the P1.
