Chris Harris Drives 918 Spyder: Day 1
Chris Harris finally published his first of two drives/days piloting the 918 Spyder.
In the article on Piston Heads, Harris muses, how he was totally wrong in doubting the 918 Spyder and it's engineers; stating (amongst other things):
Harris thought the 918 was incredibly fast, sounded great, looked fetching ("beautiful" exterior, and interior), and handled like a beast (though more on that in the next review/video, CH says). He also thought the engineering to pull this car off, was superb, and much better in execution and visuals, then [even when] he drove it last, back in May 2013, when he was still a bit of a doubter--though impressed with many aspects of it.
On this first day Valencia [Spain] track review, Harris drove the standard non Weissach 918 eight laps with the electronic nannies ON. Regarding the 918's speed and acceleration in Valencia, Harris stated:
In his forthcoming review and video, he'll drive it with the electronic nannies off (and I'm sure we'll see much sliding as well). More on that, and the video soon.
Enjoy the article/information (particularly those waiting for a Harris review).

In the article on Piston Heads, Harris muses, how he was totally wrong in doubting the 918 Spyder and it's engineers; stating (amongst other things):
"For now, rest assured that far from being the slightly sorry-looking underdog in the hybrid hypercar market, as it undoubtedly was back at the Geneva show. The 918 is here, it works, it has gone sub-seven minutes at the 'ring. It does things no other road-registered machine I've driven can match. It's also naffing fast."

Even on an open, unintimidating circuit like Valencia, the 918 shrinks the straight bits between corners like few cars I've driven. Throttle (and motor) response is seemingly instant, but it's the seamless interplay between electricity and combustion that renders this car a masterpiece and, I think, should leave all us flat-earthers mighty relieved about the future of the fast car. The front axle and rear axle motors punt the 918 out of turns with such violence that following a new 991 Turbo S becomes a complete pain. You have to back-off to avoid clouting the back of it.
Enjoy the article/information (particularly those waiting for a Harris review).

More pics.
I actually think the 918, looks best in Yellow, that beautiful Blue color we saw the other day, and in Silver, grey.

Another Yellow:
The some times maligned acid green calipers, actually look like their glowing (and kinda cool) in this color combination (yellow car, darker standard wheels).
