Anyone that would let his 20 year old son drive a Carrera GT doesn't deserve a Carrera GT or a son.
Thankfully all the owner is looking at is a big car repair bill.
And the son's grounded until he's 100.
Sincerely,
Macster.

You can insure almost anything if you can afford the premium.
And some owners of these cars are well off, very well off, and probably can to afford to self insure. Depends upon what the insurance premium is and what restrictions there are to the number of miles, etc, the insurance policy would impose.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Case in point: My 08 Cayman S was hit and declared a total loss. The car listed new at $62.6K. The other driver only had $50K coverage. Through some good negotiations (helped with some very good counsel from an insurance expert I know) I managed to get a settlement from the other driver's insurance company that made me whole.
Anyhow, given the low liabilty limits most drivers carry one's insurance company is looking at having to shell out the difference to make you whole and most will want to avoid this risk.
Sincerely,
Macster.

An example of what Macster just described above is why I carry very high "Uninsured/Underinsured" limits on my policies. Most people (especially in California) only carry the minimums (which I believe is still something link 15K property and 30K medical damage). So, if some kid in a beat up old car runs a red light and slams into your car - his insurance company will only pay the policy maximums and it's up to you to get restitution above and beyond what the insurance co pays directly from the person who hit you.
Always carry heavy Uninsured/Underinsured insurance as it's cheap (especially if you find yourself in this unfortunate situation) and can be a lifesaver.

Here in England all motor insurance policies have unlimited coverage to the victim by law.

I'm interested to know more about that policy. Sounds like a third party liability only coverage, maybe with fire and theft or other caveats such as extremely low annual verified mileage. I'm looking for an insurer that understands the idea of very low mileage and the situation of one driver and multiple (say 5 or 10 cars) so the insurance risk assessment and premium should reflect the actual risk.

it's with state farm. full coverage. I do have a bunch of discounts including the "bunch of cars", safe driver (chuckle), other home/umbrella policies, 5000 miles/year limit. they called me back today after it completed underwriting and told me it was going to be $139/month.
