Default CGT 2004 or 2005?

Any major CGT mechanical improvement from 2004 to 2005? That is, improved clutch, engine, suspension, or transmission?

Any major mechanical or safety recalls for the 2004 models?

This has been asked and answered a few times on this forum, if you search for 2004 and 2005 you will see the other posts.

I was going to try and link them, but I am not sure how.

Thanks. I searched and received a few PMs. Apparently the most significant difference is that the paint and fit got better as Porsche produced more cars. You can see the carbon fiber pattern in the paint on the earlier cars, like you see on an F40.

I have seen the carbon patten on F40's but I have never seen it on any '04 CGT including mine, I think you received some bad information on that one.

Every panel is hand fit, so I don't believe they got any better in the fit either, they didn't redesign the panels so I am sure they all fit the same. I have never seen a difference between the fit and finish of any CGT, they have all been perfect. If you see any panels that don't fit or line up properly on a CGT my guess is it was in a accident and you should run from the car.

As stated in the other threads they added more options and colors in '05 and that is about it. I have driven a number of '05 CGT's and I can't tell any diffeence whatsoever.

I read somewhere an explanation from Porsche about why one can under certain conditions see the CF pattern through the paintwork - I think it was to do with ambient temperature (and probably lighting) - they said it was a feature and not a fault/problem.....

I think it is cool on the F40 and if I could see the pattern on the CGT it wouldn't bother me either. I think Ferrari did this to save weight and not put the paint on thick enough to cover up the texture of the carbon weave.

Like I said before I have never seen it on any CGT, but it certainly wouldn't bother me if you could see the texture through the paint.

Do you guys notice the "orange-peel" texture you see here in the reflection of flourescent lights? This is on the front and rear bumpers.

I can see the carbon fiber pattern very distinctly on my 2005 CGT.

Thanks... kind of like the "orange peel" you see in the above photos?

Bill,

I'm not referring to orange peel but rather a distinct and repeatable weave pattern distinguishable below the paint. I would take a picture for you but a) I don't own a camera and b) the car is now entirely covered with clear film.

Thanks Josh. So you see the orange peel as well as the weave pattern?

BTW, I understand there may be some later cars where you cannot see the weave pattern. Not that it matters to me... it's just interesting.

Hi Bill,

That's correct. I see both. Its easiest to identify the orange peel and the weave pattern under fluorescent lights.
