Ford Cobra vs. Carrera GT

Ford Cobra vs. Carrera GT
I saw a "replicar" Ford Cobra the other day, it was an 8-cylinder, 427, with around 480 hp and around the same torque. It costs around $60K. I was told it does 0 to 60 in 3.3 secs!!! The car weighs around 2,500 lbs.
Compare that to a Carrera GT, a $440K car with 10-cylinders, 605 hp, 0 to 60 in 3.8 secs, and weighs 3,042 lbs. That is blazing fast yet this Cobra, a $60K car does it supposedly in 3.3, must ALL be in the weight difference
Something does not sound right.

Anyway, comparing a CGT to a Cobra is not all that silly considering the Cobra has been considered the benchmark for decades in the sports car world. Considering an original Cobra is worth more than double a CGT - many publications have found the "new" replicas to be faster than the originals. Especially the SuperFormance units. The new Brock designed Coupe is nothing short of amazing for under $100k:

This is like when Road and Track compared the new Z06 'Vette to the Viper. They bashed the viper couse it was slower in the 1/4 and in 0-60, but they wouldn't compare 100-200mph times, cause the 'Vette prolly can't even do it
You can't compare a car with 3.55 gears to a car with 3.07's
I suspect the case with the CGT VS the cobra is similar.

Zero to stuporous:
In competition: Mad Dog 20/20 vs. Chateau Mouton Rothschild when compared for elapsed time til drunk always favors the $2.50 bottle vs. the $250.00 bottle. But, from the consumer standpoint, there are a few differences, and not many who like the latter would aquire the former.
That's a little unfair to the Cobra, because it is a thrilling car. But all these figures merely reflect power to weight ratio, gearing, and rear wheel traction.
Mark is right in that a clapped-out Mustang with nitrous, a locker, and slicks could equal the 0-60 numbers of a supercar. It's not about could you build it, it's about would you drive it?
The Cobra occupied a unique niche in its day, but the strides forward in engineering costs to yield the CGT come at sequentially higher prices. Recall, the test mule McClaren F1's all used 427 chevrolet engines. Much cheaper than the BMW finally developed. AS

Drifting
i watched on top gear here in the uk when they stripped out an old xjs jag 12 cylinder and injected it with nitrous. it out ran all (i think) of the supercars they lined up along side it, it was even faster to the end of the carrier deck than a harrier jump jet - and then it sank in the ocean so the plane flys and the car dosent, theres not too much meaningful comparison to be made imo, id have the cgt and the cobra and drive whichever..
