Default 918 VIP Program

There seems to be constant rumors that the VIP program ends at the 10yr point of ownership of a newly purchased 918. Any 918 owners willing to comment or inform us if this is true or not?

So is it written in the contract when you bought the car, or has the VIP program always been a courtesy from Porsche that will definitely now go away. Curious as I have heard some documentation exist's and each person's agreement maybe different ie some have a timeline built in and some do not.

The 918-owner preferential allocation program was/is a one-time solution to a specific sales problem with the 918. PCNA was tasked with (agreed to) selling circa 300 of the super car in North America. Sales stalled somewhat short of 200 and PCNA/PAG marketing needed some way to sell the last ~100 or so cars scheduled for production. (The lack of selling out was directly related to the Carrera GT marketing fiasco of 2005/2006) The solution they came up with was to offer all 918 customers a preferential allocation system (ahead of the dealer chain) with a sliding scale based on ownership time. 918 customers were allowed preferred allocations based on the length of ownership. If one maintained ownership for less than 6 months, allocation preference would end immediately upon the sale. More than 6 months gave 3 years of preferred allocations. At least 3 years of maintaining ownership gave 10 years of allocation preference.

This is a one-time program created to fix a one-time sales issue with only the 918.

I didn't realize that you only had to own the car for 3yrs to get full 10yrs worth of the VIP program. So then it will be officially closed likely after the S/T's deliver and Porsche allocations will be handled by Porsche and dealerships going forward.
