Default 2017 991 CUP

FYI:

The 911 GT3 Cup is propelled by a free-breathing, direct-injected 4.0-liter flat-six-cylinder engine that makes 485 horsepower, up from the predecessor’s 460.

While the predecessor needed an engine tuneup every 40 hours and a transmission service every 30 hours, now the engine can go 80 to 100 hours, and the transmission needs attention only every 60 hours. The gearbox is a sequential racing transmission. Standing on 18-inch wheels, the entire car weighs a mere 2646 pounds. It works without artificial driving aids, but it is “ABS ready,” said Walliser, which means that an anti-lock-braking system, where required, can use an existing sensor infrastructure. The GT3 Cup is fitted with xenon HID headlights, since LED units would be heavier.

i wonder what other small differences the car will have. 20hp isn't going to account for the supposed 1.5s laptime difference

It must be the new low end torque.

How much did the 991.1 weigh?

100 hours on the engine in a professional racing environment is impressive.

Engine is lighter, but Rollcage and Structures of the Bodyshell have been reinforced massively!

We already retubbed a 2015 991.1 Cup with the 2017 991.2 Shell as the older ones are no longer available from Weissach. Modifications to the cage and body are clearly visible!

so the chassis will be stiffer?

will shocks and springs be same?

not to get into minutae, but will weight balance be different since the reduced engine mass will be spread out over the whole body?

I can't tell anything about the shocks or other components as we re-used the 2015 parts again. The cage is improved to provide better protection and the chassis-stiffness and rigidity is increased with additional welded-in plates.

We have to wait until we see the MY 17 cars in teams hands until we can say anything about the weight distribution etc.

Now that sounds like a tasty package; stronger shell w/tried and true Mezger.

I'd rather have the new engine and gearbox with the new rebuild intervals tbh.

And as a consequence, that the 991.1 will become available for the even more mortal man ... and that 997 prices will hit rock bottom.

I'd like to know what they did to the tranny, and if those parts can be used in 997 cups...

Me too....once those intervals have proven true in the real world.

991 GT3 was supposed to have a massively improved motor and we know how that's worked out so far. If the Cup motor and GT3 motor are in fact essentially the same then I sure hope they've sorted it because these things will spend way more time at redline than the street car.

^^ indeed

Porsche is still very much on the back foot re: engines. They really did this whole thing backwards - they released the road car engine first, then the FIA-GT3 car, and then finally incorporated onto the Cup...

I think they looked at Merc and Audi and tried to implement same concept w/ 6.2L V8 and 5L V10
