Default First drive of 997GT3 Cup

I took my car to Brands Hatch yesterday for my first drive WOW what a car The engine just wants to pull all the way and that fantastic sound
The gearbox so easy to get used to,used the clutch for down shifts never missed a gear
Four laps in the tyres come to life the grip was fantastic I had to come back in and tighten the belts
Next stop Spa I cannot wait
One Very happy Porsche 997 GT3 CUP owner

Like I said it was my first run out in the car iam learning to drive the car by driving it, I have never driven a car with a sequential gearbox,i think I will have to do a lot of testing to get it right

It's a great car but beware you can still over rev on downshifts despite the sequential and auto blip so just keep that in mind when braking hard and downshifting.

Hi Jim,
Brands is my local track. Were you on a test day or track day? If track day, who with ? Did you have any hassles with noise?
I have done a couple of days at Brands with my 996GT3 Cup and both times had noise hassle. Despite my car having "quiet" exhaust.

Hi Laurence
It was a Brands Hatch Track day for Porsches organised by Brands Hatch
I had no trouble with my noise test I just held it at 4000rpm on warm up mode and they stickered the car passed, if you go for a track or test day could you let me know as it sound like you know more about GT3s than me , and I need to know more about the car

There are some basics you might know already but better hear it multiple times then too few.

- Shift firm and almost brutal. Don't cuddle the gear leaver.
- Don't let your hand 'rest' on the leaver. Shift, and off the lever.
- There's a sensor in the top that leaver, that will start to cut the ignition.
- These shift sensors are extremely sensible and you should have them checked every now and then.
- Having them not perfectly set up, will ruin your box.
- Try to use as much heel and toe as possible on the downshifts in all possible conditions.
- This is to save your synchro's and avoid blocking the rear tires under braking.
- Get an auto-blipper (auto heel and toe) or even better paddle shift system.
- This will increase the live span of your box with 100%

Do you have the manual with all the basic set up info, part numbers and torque values ?
There's a ton of info in that manual and very interesting. If not i can mail that to you.

Enjoy :-)
