Default AIM Smarty question

I have the old style Smartycam connected to my AIM MXL dash...the camera starts recording each time I start the car...Is there a specific setting that only starts the camera at track speeds or g-force? I have way too many 30 second videos to sort through at the end of a weekend!

I haven't found a way, so wonder if someone will come up with one. When downloading I just look at the files that are the largest. ...six sessions weekend, copy over 6 largest files.

An easy solution is to add a power switch for the dash / camera.

I turn it off for loading and other less than fascinating events.

I think Dan's method is the only way. When the SC is slaved to the MXL, it begins recording when the MXL does. The MXL is triggered by wheelspeed (something like 10 kph) or RPM (greater than 500ish).

I recommend that the power cable be unhooked from the SC except while at the track. The real problem is that the camera runs for 15 minutes after it looses signal from the MXL. If you start and stop the engine many times, like unloading and loading, the SC battery becomes totally flat when you arrive at the track. This creates issues and many times the camera will not record until charged to at least 10% with the 110 V charger. Switch on the dash is a reasonable solution, unhooking the camera is easier.

Another option might be to add a Data Hub ($60) on the dash within reach of the driver. You can easily plug it in when you get in the seat and think "did I hook the camera up"? Trust me, you will forget......

Mine has an auto setting by speed or g's and I thought mine was 1st gen SC. My bad if this is incorrect info:

Tim

You are correct that the SC has both settings. The proper setting when connected to the dash/logger is the "slave" mode not the G trigger
